The Event Universe The Revisionary Metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead

Free Download Leemon B. McHenry, "The Event Universe: The Revisionary Metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead "
English | ISBN: 1474400345 | 2015 | 184 pages | PDF | 989 KB
Leemon McHenry argues that Whitehead’s metaphysics provides a better basis for achieving a unification of physical theory than a traditional substance metaphysics. He investigates the influence of Maxwell’s electromagnetic field, Einstein’s theory of relativity and quantum mechanics on the development of the ontology of events and compares Whitehead’s theory to his contemporaries, C. D. Broad and Bertrand Russell, as well as W. V. Quine. In this way, McHenry defends the naturalised and speculative approach to metaphysics as opposed to analytical and linguistic methods that arose in the 20th century.

Beckett, Derrida, and the Event of Literature

Free Download Asja Szafraniec, "Beckett, Derrida, and the Event of Literature"
English | 2007 | ISBN: 0804754578, 080475456X | PDF | pages: 265 | 23.4 mb
The late Jacques Derrida’s notion of literature is explored in this new study. Starting with Derrida’s self-professed inability to comment on the work of Samuel Beckett, whom Derrida nevertheless considered one of the most interesting and exemplary writers of our time, Asja Szafraniec argues that the shared feature of literary works as Derrida understands them is a double, juridical-economical gesture, and that one aspect of this notion (the juridical) is more hospitable to Beckett’s oeuvre than the other. She then discusses other contemporary philosophical approaches to Beckett, including those of Gilles Deleuze, Stanley Cavell, and Alain Badiou. The book offers an innovative analysis of Derrida’s approach to literature, as well as an overview of current philosophical approaches to contemporary literature, and a number of innovative readings of Beckett’s work.

Logics of Worlds Being and Event II

Free Download Alain Badiou, "Logics of Worlds: Being and Event II "
English | ISBN: 135004301X | 2019 | 600 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Logics of Worlds is the sequel to Alain Badiou’s masterpiece, Being and Event. Tackling the questions that had been left open by Being and Event, and answering many of his critics in the process, Badiou supplements his pioneering treatment of multiple being with a daring and complex theory of the worlds in which truths and subjects make their mark – what he calls a materialist dialectic. Drawing on his most ambitious philosophical predecessors – Leibniz, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Lacan, Deleuze – Badiou ends this important later work with an impassioned call to ‘live for an Idea’.
