Induction, Probability, and Causation

Free Download Induction, Probability, and Causation by C. D. Broad
English | PDF | 1968 | 307 Pages | ISBN : In his essay on ‘Broad on Induction and Probability’ (first published in 1959, reprinted in this volume), Professor G. H. von Wright writes: "If Broad’s writings on induction have remained less known than some of his other contributions to philosophy . . . , one reason for this is that Broad never has published a book on the subject. It is very much to be hoped that, for the benefit of future students, Broad’s chief papers on induction and probability will be collected in a single volume . . . . " The present volume attempts to perform this service to future students of induction and probability.
The suggestion of publishing a volume of this kind in Synthese Library was first made by Professor Donald Davidson, one of the editors of the Library, and was partly prompted by Professor von Wright’s statement. In carrying out this suggestion, the editors of Synthese Library have had the generous support of Professor Broad who has among other things supplied a new Addendum to ‘The Principles of Problematic Induction’ and corrected a number of misprints found in the first printings of this paper. The editors gratefully acknow ledge Professor Broad’s help and encouragement. A bibliography of Professor Broad’s writings (up to 1959) has been compiled by Dr. C. Lewy and has appeared in P. A. Schilpp, editor, The Philosophy of C. D. Broad (The Library of Living Philosophers), pp. 833-852.

India’s Bangladesh Problem The Marginalization of Bengali Muslims in Neoliberal Times

Free Download Navine Murshid, "India’s Bangladesh Problem: The Marginalization of Bengali Muslims in Neoliberal Times"
English | ISBN: 1009259423 | 2023 | 300 pages | PDF | 3 MB
In recent years, Bengali Muslims in India have faced harassment and scapegoating as the trope of the illegal Bangladeshi has gained political currency. India’s Bangladesh Problem explores the experience of Bengali Muslims on the Indian side of the India-Bangladesh border in the context of neoliberal policies, unequal bilateral relations, labor migration, contested citizenship, and increasingly xenophobic government rhetoric. Drawing on extensive research in the borderlands and hinterlands of both countries, Navine Murshid argues that ever-deepening neoliberal policies across the border have shaped how certain ethnic groups are valued and have reconfigured social hierarchies. She provides new insights into the strategic inclusion, exclusion, and invisibility that characterizes Bengali Muslims’ lives, rendering them a group susceptible to manipulation by virtue of their ethnic kinship to the majority of Bangladeshis. In turn, Bengali Muslims simultaneously resist and utilize received neoliberal ideas to sustain their lives and livelihoods at a time when neoliberal development has largely bypassed them.

English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 196 Pages | ISBN : 9811993858 | 4.5 MB
This book provides practice-oriented insights into the agency of two previously underestimated actors in Southeast Asian regionalism: the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN’s dialog partners. In doing so, it offers an inside view of the policymaking processes in the ASEAN Political-Security and the ASEAN Economic Community, analyzing the interplay and agency by both actors in agenda setting, formulation, decision-making, implementation, and monitoring. Drawing on a trove of novel data, including never-before analyzed sources and numerous interviews with ASEAN insiders, the book showcases a number of concrete cases of policymaking, including competition and counterterrorism policies. The chapters focusing on the ASEAN Secretariat address aspects related to institutional autonomy, capacity, and reforms within the bureaucracy. In the chapters on ASEAN’s dialog partners, the book provides insights into the bilateral management of institutional support programs, as well as the impacts of support on ASEAN’s policymaking processes.
