Shakespeare and the denial of territory Banishment, abuse of power and strategies of resistance

Free Download Pascale Drouet, "Shakespeare and the denial of territory: Banishment, abuse of power and strategies of resistance"
English | ISBN: 1526144042 | 2021 | 248 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This book analyses three Shakespearean plays that particularly deal with abusive forms of banishment: King Richard II, Coriolanus, and King Lear. In these plays, the abuses of power are triggered by fearless speeches that question the legitimacy of power and are misinterpreted as breaches of allegiance; in these plays, both the bold speech of the fearless speaker and the performative sentence of the banisher trigger the relentless dynamics of what Deleuze and Guattari termed ‘deterritorialisation’. This book approaches the central question of the abusive denial of territory from various angles: linguistic, legal and ethical, physical and psychological. Various strategies of resistance are explored: illegal return, which takes the form of a frontal counterattack employing a ‘war machine’; ruse and the experience of internal(ised) exile; and mental escape, which nonetheless may lead to madness, exhaustion or heartbreak.

Paedophilia and Child Sexual Abuse in Drama and Theatre

Free Download Amanda M. Young-Hauser Daniel Meyer-Dinkgräfe, "Paedophilia and Child Sexual Abuse in Drama and Theatre"
English | ISBN: 1527511626 | 2018 | 115 pages | PDF | 522 KB
In many Western countries, numerous instances of cases of historical and present-day sexual abuse of children (Child Sex Abuse, CSA) have made the headlines across the entire range of media. These cases are discussed variously as paedophilia and child sexual abuse. In the heat of the debate, concepts and related terminology tend to become at best vague, and there is much in the way of sheer sensationalism. Altogether, a hazy cloud of facts and fiction has been created around paedophilia in its relation to CSA. This book adds to the very urgently needed enhanced level of understanding by analysing the nature of paedophilia and its relation to CSA as they have been depicted and dealt with in contemporary British and American drama and theatre. Drawing on the plays and their reviews allows it to illustrate the ambiguity of paedophilia and child sex abuse, and to ask questions that are not often uttered and not easily answered.

Incisive, urgent, and written exactly for our post-Roe times, Survivor Injustice is the feminist frame-changing book we need now-for each of us, and for all that’s at stake. With an abolitionist lens, journalist and Jezebel staff writer Kylie Cheung shows how domestic abuse and state violence are systemic and interconnected.
