Cambrai 1917 The birth of armoured warfare

Free Download Peter Dennis, "Cambrai 1917: The birth of armoured warfare"
English | 2007 | pages: 100 | ISBN: 1846031478 | PDF | 11,8 mb
This crucial new study of one of the seminal events in military history dispells many of the myths surrounding Cambrai 1917 of World War I (1914-1918). Common perception classifies it as the "world’s first tank battle" but Alexander Turner shows us that the real importance of Cambrai was that it saw the first use of armor as an operational shock tactic. With the pre-eminence of armor, the conduct of war was irrevocably changed. The battle also heralded the combined use of aircraft, armor, and artillery, marking the birth of modern combined-arms techniques. Written by a military historian and serving soldier, this is a fascinating analysis of a battle which was a stalemate, yet spawned a host of war-winning tactics.

English | August 11, 2011 | ISBN: 1462034640 | 368 pages | PDF (Converted) | 7.82 Mb
Major Hal Skaarup has woven together an informative and detailed synopsis of the carefully preserved and restored armoured fighting vehicles on display in Canada. He highlights the importance of these upon key turning points in history when these AFVs were in use as tools of war at home and overseas. We often associate the evolution of military prowess with the advancement of sophisticated technology. Major Skaarup’s descriptions of Canadian armour as it evolved to the level it has today reveals that military planners have had to be continuously creative in adapting to the changes in modern combat. They had to devise many intricate techniques, tactics and procedures to overcome the insurgents and opposition forces faced in Afghanistan and future overseas missions where Canadian armour will be brought into play. This guide book will show the interested reader where to find examples of the historical armour preserved in Canada, and perhaps serve as a window on how Canada’s military contribution to safety and security in the world has evolved.

Japanese Tanks and Armoured Warfare 1932-1945

Free Download Japanese Tanks and Armoured Warfare 1932-1945: A Military and Political History
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1781558108 | 201 Pages | EPUB (True) | 2 MB
The popular image of the Japanese tanks which faced the markedly superior tanks fielded by the Allies during the Second World War is one of poorly armed and armoured Lilliputian tin cans which failed to make any impression upon the battlefield. In this absorbing new history, David McCormack looks beyond widely held and unchallenged misconceptions to create a new narrative in which Japan’s rightful place as a leading innovator in tank design and doctrine is restored. Why did Japan produce tanks in such limited numbers? What contribution did Japanese tanks make to the war effort? Why did it take Japan so long to develop heavier tanks capable of meeting the Allies on more equal terms? Drawing from primary and secondary sources, the author’s meticulous research provides the reader with an objective appraisal of both the successes and failures of the Empire of the Sun’s tank forces.

Pakwagen SDKFZ 234/3 and 234/4 Heavy Armoured Cars

Free Download Pakwagen SDKFZ 234/3 and 234/4 Heavy Armoured Cars: German Army, Waffen-SS and Luftwaffe Units – Western and Eastern Fronts, 1944-1945 (LandCraft) by Dennis Oliver
English | October 24, 2022 | ISBN: 1399065041 | 64 pages | EPUB | 8.35 Mb
Experience in the Polish and French campaigns had convinced the German high command of the value of fast-moving, armed reconnaissance vehicles. But it was realized that many of the early designs were too lightly-armed and development of a heavy eight-wheeled prototype resulted in the Sdkfz 234 series of armored cars, the first of which entered service in late 1943. Built by the firm of Büssing-NAG, these sturdy and reliable vehicles were gradually up-armed and served in the infantry support role and eventually as tank killers, largely as the result of Hitler’s desperation to arm as many vehicles as possible with anti-tank weapons. Drawing on official documentation and unit histories, Dennis investigates the formations that operated these vehicles and uses archive photos and extensively researched color illustrations to examine the markings, camouflage and technical aspects of the Sdkfz 234/2, 234/3 and 234/4 armored cars that served on the Western and Eastern Fronts in the last months of the war. A key section of his book displays available model kits and aftermarket products, complemented by a gallery of beautifully constructed and painted models in various scales. Technical details as well as modifications introduced during production and in the field are also examined, providing everything the modeler needs to recreate an accurate representation of these historic vehicles.
