This North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) was devoted to Wastewater Reuse – Risk Assessment, Decision-Making and Environmental Security held in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Hotel Villa Suites, Taksim during October 12-16, 2006. More than 100 scientists had requested to parti- pate but only 63 could attend the meeting representing 20 countries―Azerbaijan, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Israel, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Spain, The Netherlands, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United States of America, and Uzbekistan. 48 papers and 10 posters were presented; only 45 research papers were selected and put in this proceedings manual. Other papers, although they had good information, could not be included due to poor data, not related to the topic or failed to meet the deadline. You may feel some difficulty in understanding some of the papers due to the fact that they were initially written in presenter’s home language and then translated into English by nonscientific people, who have very little knowledge or interest in putting correct scientific terms. Financial support came from the NATO Program for Security through Science, Public Diplomacy Division and sponsored by the Society of Risk Analysis (SRA). Twelve (12) individual participants contributed towards their travel and two (2) for their living expenses.

Production Practices and Quality Assessment of Food Crops Quality Handling and Evaluation

Free Download Ramdane Dris, S. Mohan Jain, "Production Practices and Quality Assessment of Food Crops: Quality Handling and Evaluation"
English | 2004 | pages: 524 | ISBN: 1402017006, 9401742685 | PDF | 3,3 mb
Food quality is becoming an ever-increasing important feature for consumers and it is well known that some food crops are perishable and have a very short shelf and storage life. An effective quality assurance system throughout the handling steps between harvest and retail display is essential to provide a consistently good quality supply of fresh food crops to the consumers and to protect the reputation of a given marketing label. Food manufacturing companies all over the world are incre- ingly focussing on quality aspect of food including minimally processed food to meet consumer demands for fresh-like and healthy food products. To investigate and control quality, one must be able to measure quality-related attributes. Quality of produce encompasses sensory attributes, nutritive values, chemical constituents, mechanical properties, functional properties and defects. Successful postharvest handling of crops requires careful coordination and integration of the various steps from harvest operations to consumer level in order to maintain the initial product quality. Maturity at harvest is one feature of quality of perishable products, it has great influence on their postharvest behavior during marketing. Safety assurance can be part of quality assurance and its focus on minimizing chemical and microbial contamination during production, harvesting, and postharvest handling of intact and fresh-cut of commodities. Essentially, electromagnetic (often optical) prop- ties relate to appearance, mechanical properties to texture, and chemical properties to flavor (taste and aroma).

Principles of Forensic Mental Health Assessment

English | 2001 | pages: 343 | ISBN: 1475786050, 0306465388 | PDF | 3,3 mb
Most of the literature in forensic mental health assessment is organized around the particular legal issue that is the focus of a given assessment, tool, or research study. This book starts with a different assumption: There are broad principles of forensic assessment that are applicable across different legal issues. If such principles exist, they should be derived from and supported by sources of authority in ethics, law, science, and prof- sional practice. This is what I seek to do in this book, with each of the 29 broad principles of forensic mental health assessment described and a- lyzed from the perspective of these sources of authority. There are a number of individuals who have contributed in various ways to making this a better book. It seems best to begin with a general acknowledgment: Those interested in forensic mental health assessment, particularly my colleagues from the American Psychology-Law Society and the American Board of Forensic Psychology, have been an extraor- narily helpful and congenial group. I have learned a great deal from them over the years and they challenged me to undertake the daunting task of trying to capture the broad views of the field in this book.

Behavioral assessment is a psychological assessment paradigm that emphasizes empirically supported, multimethod and multi-informant assessment of specific, observable behaviors and contemporaneous causal variables in the natural environment. The behavioral assessment paradigm stresses the use of well-validated assessment instruments and assumptions that social/environmental, cognitive, and physiological variables are often important sources of behavior variance.

The text follows the typical sequence of an actual needs assessment process. Examples are drawn from myriad public health efforts, recognizing that not all public health sector agencies bear direct responsibility for all activities that could be considered part of public health.
