William Morris’ Position between Art and Politics

Free Download Grzegorz Zinkiewicz, "William Morris’ Position between Art and Politics"
English | ISBN: 1443852007 | 2016 | 260 pages | PDF | 1048 KB
This volume re-evaluates the position of William Morris regarding contemporary perspectives on his artistic and political endeavours. Special emphasis is placed on the concepts and territories that lie in-between, both literally and metaphorically. This in-between-ess is the most remarkable quality of Morris, and secures him a unique position among his contemporaries, as well as inspiring new generations of scholars. Paradoxically, however, this aspect also contributes to a certain marginalization of Morris in studies devoted to Eminent Victorians. Instead of speaking of ruptures, gaps or lacunas, the point of view adopted here explores the undefined terrenes situated between art and politics, viewing them as vantage points and departure planes which cement Morriss universe. At the same time, the book also argues that this universe has always existed in its specific shape and form, while the poetic upholster, as Morris was ironically labelled, only discovered and explored different points on the map of a space that could have no limits and boundaries. The book offers new insights and avenues to supplement existing scholarship on Morris, including spatiotemporal aspects of his work and the relationship between art and politics.

Ideological Roots of the Conflict between Pro-Kurdish and Pro-Islamic Parties in Turkey

Free Download Rahman Dag, "Ideological Roots of the Conflict between Pro-Kurdish and Pro-Islamic Parties in Turkey"
English | ISBN: 1443855146 | 2017 | 210 pages | PDF | 872 KB
The current agenda of international politics is full of headline-grabbing conflicts. This book focuses on one such conflict, namely the Kurdish question in Turkey, with recent peace negotiations between Turkey and the PKK having apparently failed. The pro-Islamic ruling party of Turkey (the AK Party) and the ideologically leftist pro-Kurdish parties are the key determinants of this conflict. Their historical development since the inception of modern Turkey is discussed here to demonstrate the similarities and differences between these oppositional social and political groups. In this sense, the book claims that ideological rigidity is one of the core factors shaping the relationship between these parties. As such, the book provides a detailed investigation of the ideological perspectives of the key actors in the conflict in order to gain a better understanding of why the last initiative ended negatively.

Einstein’s Fridge How the Difference Between Hot and Cold Explains the Universe

Free Download Einstein’s Fridge: How the Difference Between Hot and Cold Explains the Universe by Paul Sen
English | 2021 | ISBN: B08FNDYWGL | MP3@64 kbps | ~11:05:00 | 304 Mb
This entertaining, eye-opening account of how the laws of thermodynamics are essential to understanding the world today – from refrigeration and jet engines to calorie counting and global warming – is "a lesson in how to do popular science right" (Kirkus Reviews).
Einstein’s Fridge tells the incredible epic story of the scientists who, over two centuries, harnessed the power of heat and ice and formulated a theory essential to comprehending our universe. "Although thermodynamics has been studied for hundreds of years…few nonscientists appreciate how its principles have shaped the modern world" (Scientific American). Thermodynamics – the branch of physics that deals with energy and entropy – governs everything from the behavior of living cells to the black hole at the center of our galaxy. Not only that, but thermodynamics explains why we must eat and breathe, how lights turn on, the limits of computing, and how the universe will end.
The brilliant people who decoded its laws came from every branch of the sciences; they were engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists, cosmologists, and mathematicians. From French military engineer and physicist Sadi Carnot to Lord Kelvin, James Joule, Albert Einstein, Emmy Noether, Alan Turing, and Stephen Hawking, author Paul Sen introduces us to all of the players who passed the baton of scientific progress through time and across nations. Incredibly driven and idealistic, these brave pioneers performed groundbreaking work often in the face of torment and tragedy. Their discoveries helped create the modern world and transformed every branch of science, from biology to cosmology.

Nepal’s great advantage is its location between India and China, particularly now as these two Asian giants are set to be the world’s leading economies in 2050. Nepal has historically been at its most prosperous when it has leveraged this geographical position. Today, this opportunity emerges again-and in order to take advantage of the growth of India and China, Nepal needs to hitch its wagon to the fast-moving engines to its north and south.
