How Coppola Became Cage [Audiobook]

Free Download Zach Schonfeld, Matt Godfrey (Narrator), "How Coppola Became Cage"
English | ASIN: B0CQF2NPDW | 2023 | MP3@64 kbps | ~13:46:00 | 391 MB
In 1982, a gangly teenager named Nicolas Coppola made his film debut and changed his name to Nicolas Cage. Once he achieved stardom as the rebel hunk of 1983’s Valley Girl, Cage began a career defined by unorthodox risks and left turns. How Coppola Became Cage takes listeners behind the scenes of the beloved cult movies that transformed this unknown actor into an eccentric and uncompromising screen icon with a wild-eyed gift for portraying weirdos, outsiders, criminals-and even a romantic capable of seducing Cher.
Author Zach Schonfeld traces Cage’s rise through the world of independent cinema and chronicles the stories behind his career-making early performances. Drawing on more than 100 new interviews with Cage’s key collaborators, How Coppola Became Cage offers a revealing portrait of Cage’s wildly intense devotion to his performances behind the scenes and his creative self-discovery as he drew on influences as far-flung as silent cinema and German Expressionism.

Unleashing Manhood in the Cage Masculinity and Mixed Martial Arts

Free Download Christian Vaccaro, "Unleashing Manhood in the Cage: Masculinity and Mixed Martial Arts"
English | ISBN: 1498523765 | 2015 | 140 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Unleashing Manhood in the Cage: Masculinity and Mixed Martial Arts addresses the question "Why do mixed martial arts participants endure grueling workouts and suffer through injury, with little or no pay, just to compete?" The answer is because the participants enjoy a form of idolization from their supporters, each other, and culture more generally, which is linked to masculinity. In fact, MMA organizers, from the very beginning, purposefully created elements of the sport that are linked to dominant narratives about manhood. In this context, men don thin open-fingered gloves, lock themselves in a caged enclosure, and slug it out in a fight with few rules to see who comes out on top. This all occurs while "ring girls" in high-heels and skin-tight shirts and shorts stride around outside the cage holding signs and peddling t-shirts. The sum of these elements is the creation of a type of a publicly accessible and consumable form of masculinity. The sport of mixed martial arts is a rich and intriguing space where the construction of gender can be explored through a sociological and ethnographic lens.

Colours of the Cage A Prison Memoir

Free Download Arun Ferreira, "Colours of the Cage: A Prison Memoir"
English | 2014 | pages: 176 | ISBN: 9382277706 | EPUB | 0,7 mb
In May 2007, human rights activist Arun Ferreira was picked up from the railway station and arrested by the Nagpur Police on charges of being a Naxalite. Over the next few months, he was charged with more crimes-of criminal conspiracy, murder, possession of arms and rioting, among others-and incarcerated in one of the most notorious prisons in Maharashtra, the Nagpur Central Jail. This is an account of the nearly five years that Ferreira was imprisoned. We read in stark and unsparing detail about life in prison-the torture; the beatings; the corrupt system; the codes of behaviour among inmates; the strikes mounted by prisoners to protest brutality; the general air of helplessness and the small consolations that keep hope alive. In September 2011, Ferreira was acquitted of all charges and a breath away from freedom when he was re-arrested by plainclothes policemen at the prison gates. He never got a glimpse of his family who were waiting just outside. He began to fight the system all over again, until with the help of courageous friends and activists, he was cleared of all the trumped up charges that had put him in prison. Colours of the Cage is the real story of what goes on behind bars-not the celluloid or novelistic version that readers will be familiar with. However, it is not just a gritty, harrowing account of life in prison but also a memoir of astonishing power and grace-about a man’s stubborn fight for justice and the triumph of the human will.
