Neurobiology Ionic Channels, Neurons and the Brain

Free Download Neurobiology: Ionic Channels, Neurons and the Brain By G. Bucossi, M. Nizzari, V. Torre (auth.), Vincent Torre, Franco Conti (eds.)
1996 | 393 Pages | ISBN: 1461377064 | PDF | 26 MB
Understanding how the brain works is undoubtedly the greatest challenge for human intelligence and one of the most ambitious goals of contemporary science. We are certainly far from this goal, but significant advancements in several fields of Neuroscience and Neurobiology are being obtained at an increasing pace. The NATO ASI School in Neurobiology, held in Erice May 2-12,1995, as the 23rd Course of the International School of Biophysics, provided an update on three basic topics: Biophysics and Molecular Biology ofIon Channels, Sensory Transduction, and Higher Order Functions. Current knowledge on these subjects was covered by formal lectures and critical discussions between lecturers and participants. This book collects original contributions from those scientists who attended the School. Many students presented their results in poster sessions, steering lively informal discussions. A selection of these contributions is also included. A major portion of the program of the School was devoted to a general overview of current trends of thought and experimental approaches in neurobiology, emphasising the importance of understanding molecular aspects of the elementary events underlying sensory transduction and processing in the nervous system, without indulging however in a pure reductionistic view of such complex phenomena. Recent studies of molecular biology and the electrophysiology of heterologously expressed ionic channels, have shed new light on the molecular mechanisms underlying ionic permeation of excitable membranes and its regulation by physical and chemical parameters.

The Political Economy of Lobbying Channels of Influence and their Regulation (Studies in Public Choice, 43)

Free Download The Political Economy of Lobbying: Channels of Influence and their Regulation (Studies in Public Choice, 43) by Karsten Mause, Andreas Polk
English | January 10, 2024 | ISBN: 3031443926 | 390 pages | MOBI | 3.27 Mb
Lobbying is not only the subject of ongoing, heated debates in politics and the public sphere but has also been a focus of the social sciences for decades. This edited volume provides an overview of the current state of research on lobbying from the perspective of Public Choice as a subfield of political science and economics. After a brief introduction to the field, Part I provides an overview of basic concepts and political-economic theories of lobbying from the standpoints of various subfields of Public Choice. Subsequently, Part II investigates the various channels used by interest groups to influence policymakers, such as party donations, informational lobbying, hiring politicians, etc. These chapters also discuss the possibilities and limits of regulating the respective channels. Lastly, Part III sheds light on lobbying in selected regions (i.e., the United States, European Union, Russia, and China).

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) Channels

Free Download Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) Channels By V. Flockerzi (auth.), Prof. Dr. Veit Flockerzi, Prof. Dr. Bernd Nilius (eds.)
2007 | 623 Pages | ISBN: 3540348891 | PDF | 8 MB
In this fast moving field the main goal of this volume is to provide up-to-date information on the molecular and functional properties and pharmacology of mammalian TRP channels. Leading experts in the field have written 35 essays which describe properties of a single TRP protein/channel or portray more general principles of TRP function and important pathological situations linked to mutations of TRP genes or their altered expression. Thereby this volume on Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) Channels provides valuable information for readers with different expectations and backgrounds, for those who are approaching this field of research as well as for those wanting to make a trip to TRPs, from pharmacologists and physiologists to medical doctors, other scientists, students and lecturers. It fills a gap between pharmacology textbooks and latest manuscripts in scientific periodicals.
