Free Download Substructuring Method for Civil Structural Health Monitoring by Shun Weng , Hongping Zhu , Yong Xia
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 295 Pages | ISBN : 9819913683 | 60 MB
This book investigates the substructuring technology in structural health monitoring (SHM) to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the present SHM methods. SHM has been developed for monitoring, evaluation, and maintenance of civil structures. As the civil structures are usually large scale and a large number of sensors are deployed on a structure, accurate evaluation and maintenance of civil structures are always time-consuming. The book establishes a fundamental framework of substructuring method for the fast analysis of finite element (FE) model and monitoring data. Several practical civil structures are used for illustration. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in SHM technology, researchers investigating the accurate, efficient, and effective methods in SHM field, and engineers working on evaluation and maintenance of civil structures or other structural dynamics applications.

In 1861, a blast of artillery aimed at Fort Sumter started four years of the most horrendous period in American history. On the morning of April 12th, forty three Confederate cannons opened up on the fortress. Miraculously, no one on either side had been killed or seriously wounded – a battle conclusion with these results would rarely happen again. The Confederacy had to struggle to place artillery and ammunition in the field. While the Union had 163 field guns on hand, the Confederacy had only 35 when the war began. Also, most of the gunpowder mills were located in the North. Take a trip through time beginning with the infancy of artillery during the American Revolution until the final shots were fired at Appomattox. Most of the major battles are visited, along with some lesser engagements, and the role that the artillery played regarding their outcome. With over 500 photographs, (many previously unpublished), the reader will get a real feel what it was like to serve with the artillery during the Civil War.

The armed forces of the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan are in dire need of reform to address aplethora of problems including inadequate training, low morale, poor public perception, and low recruitment numbers. This book uses the postmodern military model to measure how public perception of the military is influenced by self-identification in Taiwan, and it shows that the public has little confidence or trust in their military, even as they remain acutely aware of the threat posed by an increasingly belligerent China and its ever-growing People’s Liberation Army.

The Army of the Potomac’s First Corps was one of the best corps in the entire Union army. In September 1862, it was chosen to spearhead the Union attack at Antietam, fighting Stonewall Jackson’s men in the Cornfield and at the Dunker Church. In July 1863 at Gettysburg, its men were the first Union infantry to reach the battle, where they relieved the cavalry and fought off the Confederate onslaught all day before retreating to Cemetery Hill. Their valiant stand west of Gettysburg saved the Union from disaster that day but came at great cost (60 percent casualties). The corps was disbanded the following spring, having bled itself out of existence.
