English | ISBN: 3030764362 | 2021 | 534 pages | PDF | 17 MB
This book is a contribution by the presenters of the 2020 International Conference on the Nile and Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The Nile basin is facing unprecedented level of water right challenges after the construction of GERD has begun. Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have struggled to narrow their differences on filling and operation of the GERD. The need for science and data-based discussion for a lasting solution is crucial. Historical perspectives, water rights, agreements, failed negotiations, and other topics related to the Nile is covered in this book. The book covers Nile water claims past and present, international transboundary basin cooperation and water sharing, Nile water supply and demand management, Blue Nile/Abbay and Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, land and water degradation and watershed management, emerging threats of the Lakes Region in the Nile Basin, and hydrologic variation and monitoring. This book is beneficial for students, researchers, sociologists, engineers, policy makers, lawyers, water resources and environmental managers and for the people and governments of the Nile Basin.

Colossus Hoover Dam and the Making of the American Century

Free Download Colossus: Hoover Dam and the Making of the American Century by Michael Hiltzik, Norman Dietz, Tantor Audio
English | 2010 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B003OXTOTS | MP3@96 kbps | 18 hrs 5 mins | 782 Mb
As breathtaking today as when it was completed, Hoover Dam ranks among America’s greatest achievements. The story of its conception, design, and construction is the story of the United States at a unique moment in history: when facing both a global economic crisis and the implacable elements of nature, we prevailed.
The United States after Hoover Dam was a different country from the one that began to build it, going from the glorification of individual effort to the value of shared enterprise and communal support. The dam became the physical embodiment of this change. A remote regional construction project was transformed from a Republican afterthought into a New Deal symbol of national pride. Hoover Dam went on to shape not only the American West but the American century.

Sediment Dynamics upon Dam Removal

Free Download Athanasios N. Papanicolaou and Brian D. Barkdoll, "Sediment Dynamics upon Dam Removal"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 0784411360 | PDF | pages: 190 | 2.5 mb
With the growing concern over adverse environmental impacts of dams on ecosystems and fish populations, the number of dam removals is rapidly increasing. Dams alter ecology, block fish passage, increase downstream scour, and displace residents, and dam removal is now a common solution. Concerns have arisen regarding the behavior of stored sediment and overall stream geomorphology when the dam is removed. Because large amounts of sediment have collected behind many dams, the issue of what will happen to the impounded sediment if the dam is removed is of critical importance. This monograph provides guidance and documentation of numerical and physical modeling and field experience regarding dam removal and its modeling. It will be a valuable aid to watershed and river agencies and their consultants, as well as to researchers.
