Diagnostics plays a vital role in identifying infectious diseases that have the potential to become an epidemic, such as dengue. Good diagnostics enables identifying the cause of an outbreak and assessing interventions for a better impact. The dengue virus is a member of the family of flaviviruses that cross-reacts serologically with all members of its family. The presenting symptoms do not allow definitive diagnosis because they can be of malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, or one of a host of other possibilities. In children, efficient and accurate dengue diagnostics is very important for the early confirmation of dengue because of its quick progress to severe dengue. Dengue diagnostic assays are wide-ranging-from being a reliable one that is time-consuming and expensive to rapid test kits that substantially vary in their accuracy. Therefore, it is important to know which test is to be used at what time, considering whether the population is in an endemic area, as well as how and when to use these tests, be it for the virus or for its genome, antigens, or antibodies. An ideal diagnostic test is one that can pick the virus early enough, is rapid and easy to perform, and affordable by all communities but such a test is yet not available. This book deals with most of the methods that have been used or developed for diagnosing dengue. It addresses the timeline for the evolution of the virus in the body, the body’s response from the onset of fever, and the role of diagnostics as time progresses. It covers most methods, detailing selected protocols, as well as compares them and assesses the time point at which they are useful. The book will be helpful in determining the right test, at the right time, for the right population.

Patients often seek advice in the doctor’s office whose complaints are of a functional nature and cannot be directly assigned to an organ disease via laboratory or imaging. Many of these disorders such as pain, dizziness, tinnitus, lumpiness or the "heel spur" originate from the fascial organ, which is only now slowly being understood as such.

This textbook, supported by the Textbook Publishing Center of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, provides a fundamental introduction to advanced diagnostics techniques for graduate students majoring in combustion science, chemistry, and chemical engineering-related subjects. The textbook provides an overview with respect to the spectroscopic methods in advanced diagnostics techniques such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, thermochemical analysis, Raman scattering, and nuclear magnetic resonance. It then describes the comprehensive basic theory, equipment structure, and testing methods of diagnostic techniques and summarizes the analysis methods commonly used in combustion chemical reaction processes. This can provide graduate students with important guidance and comprehensive understanding of diagnostics techniques before performing physics and chemistry experiments. In addition, it provides an introduction into using common mathematical and graphics packages for students to acquire and practice the tools to comply with international standards. The textbook is concise and illustrative and includes hot issues and current progress of diagnostics. In addition, exercises and questions are included at the end of each chapter for students to practice and gain hands-on experience. Given its scope, the textbook is of great benefit to graduate students in combustion chemistry and engineering and other related areas such as environmental science, optical engineering, and thermal science and is also beneficial for researchers with interdisciplinary backgrounds.

English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031358066 | 199 Pages | PDF (True) | 5 MB
This volume provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the various aspects of Lassa virus (LASV), the causative agent of Lassa fever, a frequently fatal zoonotic disease endemic to West Africa. Compiled by world-leading experts in the field, this book provides an introduction to the 50-year history of Lassa fever research, the genetic diversity of LASV, and its geographic distribution. Subsequent chapters focus on the ecology and epidemiology of LASV, discussing in-depth the interactions of the virus with its hosts – multimammate mice and other rodents – and the interactions between these animal reservoirs and humans. The book also details the many advances in understanding the structural biology and replication of LASV, including new insights into the structure and function of its proteins. These advances in the basic understanding of LASV biology have enabled the development of LASV countermeasures, including sensitive and specific diagnostic assays. Promising drug candidates, including monoclonal antibodies, and vaccines are also discussed. A final and essential chapter addresses current and future clinical practice for clinical management of Lassa fever.

Azure is a complex ecosystem. Diagnosing issues can be difficult with so many services and systems-but it’s critical to get right. This course takes an Azure-centric approach to diagnosing, instrumentation, and logging with Azure applications. Instructor Sahil Malik explains how to use Application Insights to track and record exceptions; perform diagnostic logging; and view health, activity, and usage metrics in Azure Monitor. He also shows how to use Azure Monitor to track virtual machines and containers, monitor network conditions, and scale services automatically based on predefined rules. Plus, learn how to optimize your deployments with Azure Advisor security and performance recommendations. With these tools and tips, you can gain deeper insights into resources you have provisioned both on-premises and in the Azure cloud.
