English | EPUB (True) | 2022 | 287 Pages | ISBN : 3031103947 | 106.6 MB
This book summarizes work being undertaken within the School Activates Resources-stitching the lost heritage of the suburbs (ScAR) project, which addressed cultural heritage in a broad sense, as a system of values identified by the populations and in constant evolution. This tangible and intangible heritage fuels the promotion of intergenerational and intercultural dialogue and represents an opportunity for resilient social and territorial development. The book ponders the experience gained and the points of view of the different disciplines involved, examines issues such as children and youth participation in civil life or education in cultural heritage and landscape, and presents real-world experiences of heritage education in everyday landscape in difficult contexts and/or concerning poorly recognized and valued cultural heritage.

Childhood, Education and Philosophy New ideas for an old relationship

Free Download Childhood, Education and Philosophy: New ideas for an old relationship By Kohan, Walter Omar
2015 | 146 Pages | ISBN: 1138787973 | PDF | 1 MB
This book explores the idea of a childlike education and offers critical tools to question traditional forms of education, and alternative ways to understand and practice the relationship between education and childhood. Engaging with the work of Michel Foucault, Jacques Rancière, Giorgio Agamben and Simón Rodríguez, it contributes to the development of a philosophical framework for the pedagogical idea at the core of the book, that of a childlike education. Divided into two parts, the book introduces innovative ideas through philosophical argument and discussion, challenging existing understandings of what it means to teach or to form a child, and putting into question the idea of education as a process of formation. The first part of the book consists of a dialogue with a number of interlocutors in order to develop an original conception of education. The second part presents the idea of a childlike education, beginning with a discussion of the relationships between childhood and philosophy, and followed by a critique of the place of philosophical experience in a childhood of education. Instead of asking how philosophy might educate childhood, this book raises the question of how childhood might educate philosophy. It will be of key value to researchers, educators and postgraduate students in the fields of education and the human sciences.

Changing Education Leadership, Innovation, and Development in a Globalizing Asic Pacific

Free Download Peter Hershock, Mark Mason, John Hawkins, "Changing Education: Leadership, Innovation, and Development in a Globalizing Asic Pacific"
English | 2007 | pages: 352 | ISBN: 9628093541, 1402065825 | PDF | 4,4 mb
This book responds to the growing unease of educators and non-educators alike about the inadequacy of most current educational systems and programs to meet sufficiently the demands of fast changing societies. These systems and programs evolved and were developed in and for societies that have long been transformed, and yet no parallel transformation has taken place in the education systems they spawned. In the last twenty years or so, other sectors of society, such as transportation and communications systems, have radically changed the way they operate, but education has remained essentially the same. There is no doubt education needs to change. To those ready to accept this challenge, this book represents a welcome guide. Unlike most books on educational policy, this volume does not focus on improving existing educational systems but on changing them altogether. Its focus is not on doing things better, but on doing better things; not on doing things right, but on doing the right things to prepare students for a fast changing interdependent world.

Argumentation in Science Education Perspectives from Classroom-Based Research

Free Download Sibel Erduran, María Pilar Jiménez-Aleixandre, "Argumentation in Science Education: Perspectives from Classroom-Based Research"
English | 2007 | pages: 295 | ISBN: 1402066694, 9402413111 | PDF | 1,9 mb
Our conversations about arguments began in Nashville in the Spring of 1996 in Richard Duschl’s doctoral seminar that we were both attending, Marilar Jiménez-Aleixandre as a visiting scholar at Vanderbilt University. Jiménez-Aleixandre and Duschl were designing authentic problems in genetics for the University of Santiago de Compostela-based RODA project aimed at engaging high school students in argumentation. Erduran and Duschl had been working on Project SEPIA extending their work in Pittsburgh schools to the design of curricula that support epistemological aspects of scientific inquiry including argumentation. In that spring we attended a NARST s- sion in St Louis, where Gregory Kelly, Steven Druker and Catherine Chen presented a paper about argumentation. As a consequence, a symposium about argumentation was organised (possibly the first of its kind) at the 1997 NARST meeting in Chicago, including papers from Kelly and colleagues and from Jiménez-Aleixandre, Bugallo and Duschl. The symposium was attended, among others, by Rosalind Driver, who had just submitted an application for funding of an argumentation project based at King’s College London, a project Erduran would incidentally work on after Driver’s untimely death. From this time frame in the 1990s to the present day, argumentation studies in science education have increased at a rapid pace, from stray papers for which we were unable to find an appropriate strand in a conference, to a wealth of research base exploring ever more sophisticated issues.

An Appetite for Life The Education of a Young Diarist, 1924-1927

Free Download An Appetite for Life: The Education of a Young Diarist, 1924-1927 By Charles Ritchie
2001 | 168 Pages | ISBN: 0771075251 | EPUB | 3 MB
Charles Ritchie’s first volume of diaries, The Siren Years, created a sensation when it was published in 1974. Besides winning the Governor General’s Award for Non-fiction, it was hailed by reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic. An Appetite for Life, his second volume, first published in 1977, deals with his youth in Halifax and his career at Oxford – the years when Charles Ritchie turned from a callow, blundering youth into a callow, blundering young man.As these diaries show, Charles Ritchie had a sharp eye, a keen ear, a highly developed sense of the absurd, and – despite his unhappy knack of landing ?at on his face – a thorough "appetite for life."This is not only a hilariously funny book, but it presents a vivid picture of two worlds – Halifax and Oxford in the mid-twenties – that are now long gone. It also introduces us to an astonishing range of characters, but the most astonishing of all is the young Charles Ritchie himself.
