An adaptable guide for anyone who wants to communicate with compassion in a rapidly changing environment. Most of us want to choose inclusive, respectful, and empowering language when communicating with or about others. But language-and how we use it-continually evolves, along with cultural norms. When contradictory opinions muddle our purpose, how do we align our word choices with our beliefs? Who has the final say when people disagree? And why is it so hard to let go of certain words? Afraid of getting something wrong or offending, we too often treat words as right or wrong, regardless of context and nuance. Thankfully, in The Conscious Style Guide, award-winning editor Karen Yin provides a road map for writing and speaking with sensitivity and awareness-no matter how the world around us progresses. With practical advice and hundreds of relatable examples, The Conscious Style Guide invites us to weigh contradictions, examine the pitfalls of binary thinking, and explore truly effective communication-in all aspects of our lives.

Control of Flexible-link Manipulators Using Neural Networks (2024)

English | 2001 | pages: 155 | ISBN: 1852334096 | PDF | 2,0 mb
Control of Flexible-link Manipulators Using Neural Networks addresses the difficulties that arise in controlling the end-point of a manipulator that has a significant amount of structural flexibility in its links. The non-minimum phase characteristic, coupling effects, nonlinearities, parameter variations and unmodeled dynamics in such a manipulator all contribute to these difficulties. Control strategies that ignore these uncertainties and nonlinearities generally fail to provide satisfactory closed-loop performance. This monograph develops and experimentally evaluates several intelligent (neural network based) control techniques to address the problem of controlling the end-point of flexible-link manipulators in the presence of all the aforementioned difficulties. To highlight the main issues, a very flexible-link manipulator whose hub exhibits a considerable amount of friction is considered for the experimental work. Four different neural network schemes are proposed and implemented on the experimental test-bed. The neural networks are trained and employed as online controllers.

Team Management Creating and Managing Flexible and Resilient Teams

Free Download Team Management: Creating and Managing Flexible and Resilient Teams by Leonardo Caporarello, Massimo Magni
English | October 1, 2022 | ISBN: 8831322575 | 170 pages | PDF | 6.43 Mb
Collaboration and teamwork are the keystones of organizational life. Managing a team requires specific competencies, the outcomes of a process of informed learning based on critical analysis not only of organizational successes, but failures as well. This book provides the tools, the methodology, and the guiding principles to support the people who work in teams as members and as leaders. The main issues inherent to team management are addressed by following a problem-based approach, with the aim of facilitating the achievement of team objectives. The authors encourage readers to reflect on the daily challenges of working on a team, and show how to lay the foundations for building a synergetic team: correctly structuring the team, assigning responsibilities, resolving conflicts, and managing decisions and meetings to optimize negotiation processes. The book also explores the advantages and obstacles to running geographically dispersed teams. Completing each chapter is an interview with an expert who offers answers to the myriad questions that team leaders have to ask themselves to be able to manage their teams with intelligence and common sense.
