Fundamental Problematic Issues in Turbulence

The Second Monte Verita Colloquium Fundamental Problematic Issues in Turbu lence was held in Monte Verita, Switzerland, on March 23-27, 1998. The main goal of the Colloquium was to bring together in the relaxed atmo sphere of Monte Verita a group of leading scientists (consisting of representatives of different generations) and to discuss informally and free of the influence of funding agencies and/or other "politics" of nonscientific nature the basic issues of turbulence. The intention was to put major emphasis on the exposition of the problematic aspects and discussion(s) – not mere reporting of results, i. e. not hav ing just one more meeting. For this purpose it was originally thought to leave all the afternoons free of formal presentations at all. However, this intention became unrealistic due to a number of reasons, and, in the first place, due to strong pres sure from various parts of the scientific community and non-scientific constraints to broaden the scope and to increase the number of participants as compared to the First Colloquium held in 1991. This resulted in a considerable reduction of time for discussions. Nevertheless, the remaining time for discussions was much larger than usually allocated at scientific conferences. On the scientific side the main idea was to bring together scientists work ing in turbulence from different fields, such as mathematics, physics, engineering and others. In this respect the Colloquium was definitely very successful and re sulted in a number of interesting interactions and contacts.

Internet Law and Protection of Fundamental Rights

Free Download Internet Law and Protection of Fundamental Rights by Marco Bassini, Giovanni De Gregorio, Oreste Pollicino
English | January 1, 2023 | ISBN: 8831322702 | 290 pages | PDF | 2.86 Mb
The protection of fundamental rights in the digital age is increasingly at the core of Internet law. The massive spread of digital and algorithmic technologies is raising questions that are intimately constitutional. Rights and freedoms are exposed to the opportunities and challenges of digital technologies, thus leading to different constitutional reactions. The book is structured in three parts. It starts by providing a focus on the primary questions around the Internet, particularly the regulation and governance of the digital environment, the jurisdictional challenge, and the access to the Internet. Then, the second part of the book examines the law of online content, looking at the protection of freedom of expression in the real and the digital world, the law of online intermediaries, the challenges raised by disinformation and hate speech, and specific sectors such as copyright and audiovisual media services. The third part analyses the field of privacy and data protection by looking at their historical roots, the role of the GDPR and specific challenges, particularly the right to be forgotten, data retention, and the transfer of data.

English | ISBN: 1108813895 | 2023 | 722 pages | EPUB, PDF | 7 MB + 10 MB
How does international law impact the behavior of states? This book designed for students in multiple disciplines offers a comprehensive, accessible introduction to the ‘law of nations,’ detailing the evolution of state practice in response to an ever-changing, diverse world. In this new edition of William Slomanson’s foundational text, the new authors, Professors Slagter and Van Doorn, trace how states manage their sovereignty in myriad ways, working through treaties, international organizations, and international courts to secure their own as well as global interests. With special emphasis on five key areas-human rights, the use of force, human security and humanitarian intervention, environmental protection, and economic relations-the authors illustrate both the power and limits of international law to provide structure and predictability on a globalized planet. Real-world problem sets, annotated bibliographies, and a practical guide to studying international law make this a text that students and instructors alike will appreciate.
