English | ISBN: 1087752736 | 2024 | 208 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
In Taught by God, theologian Brandon D. Smith invites modern Christians to rediscover the early church’s approach to biblical interpretation, not just as an historical relic but as a vibrant means of understanding the Bible today. Smith introduces three "sensibilities" that Christians throughout church history have shared: a concern for Scripture’s very words, its theological and Christological unity, and its importance for the church. Through biblical and historical examples, Taught by God challenges the modern church to read and interpret Scripture with the great cloud of historical witnesses.

Evangelicals & Scripture Tradition, Authority and Hermeneutics

Free Download Vincent E. Bacote, Laura Miguelez Quay, Dennis L. Okholm, "Evangelicals & Scripture: Tradition, Authority and Hermeneutics"
English | 2004 | ISBN: 0830827757 | EPUB | pages: 245 | 0.3 mb
By definition, a high view of Scripture inheres in evangelicalism. However, there does not seem to be a uniform way to articulate an evangelical doctrine of Scripture. Taking up the challenge, Vincent Bacote, Laura Miguélez and Dennis Okholm present twelve essays that explore in depth the meaning of an evangelical doctrine of Scripture that takes seriously both the human and divine dimensions of the Bible. Selected from the presentations made at the 2001 Wheaton Theology Conference, the essays approach this vital subject from three directions. Stanley J. Grenz, Thomas Buchan, Bruce L. McCormack and Donald W. Dayton consider the history of evangelical thinking on the nature of Scripture. John J. Brogan, Kent Sparks, J. Daniel Hays and Richard L. Schultz address the nature of biblical authority. Bruce Ellis Benson, John R. Franke, Daniel J. Treier and David Alan Williams explore the challenge of hermeneutics, especially as it relates to interpreting Scripture in a postmodern context. Together these essays provide a window into current evangelical scholarship on the doctrine of Scripture and also advance the dialogue about how best to construe our faith in the Word of God, living and written, that informs not only the belief but also the practice of the church.

English | 2011 | pages: 304 | ISBN: 1442642106, 1487526180 | PDF | 1,3 mb
At several junctures in his career, Dante paused to consider what it meant to be a writer. The questions he posed were both simple and wide-ranging: How does language, in particular ‘poetic language,’ work? Can poetry be translated? What is the relationship between a text and its commentary? Who controls the meaning of a literary work? In Dante and Augustine, Simone Marchesi re-examines these questions in light of the influence that Augustine’s reflections on similar issues exerted on Dante’s sense of his task as a poet.

Cognition and Comprehension in Translational Hermeneutics Perfect

Free Download Larisa Cercel, Brian O’Keeffe, "Cognition and Comprehension in Translational Hermeneutics Perfect"
English | ISBN: 6066971263 | 2022 | 522 pages | PDF | 3 MB
The fundamental aim of translation studies in general is to better understand the practice of translation. Insofar as hermeneutics can be regarded as an approach to understanding the nature of understanding itself (and in this it finds alliances with phenomenology), the task of this volume is to demonstrate that hermeneutics can accordingly provide a means to better apprehend the subtle complexities of translation. At issue are translators’myriad decisions, reactions, negotiations and compromises as they practice their craft. At stake is translation knowledge – what translators must know, how they know what they know, and how such savoir faire is deployed in specific instances of translation. Essays in this volume address the somatic and the cognitive, questions of experience and expertise, empirical practice, methodological protocols and suitable philosophical models in order to gain better insight into the challenging task of the translator. An additional highlight of this volume is the sustained assessment of Fritz Paepcke, one of the pioneers of what, today, is called translational hermeneutics, Paepcke being a scholar who proposed new ways to consider the delicate, but necessary negotiation between translation theory and translation practice.
