Free Download Payal Kumar, "Synchronous and Asynchronous Approaches to Teaching: Higher Education Lessons in Post-Pandemic Times"
English | ISBN: 3031178408 | 2023 | 321 pages | PDF | 7 MB
This book examines synchronous and asynchronous teaching in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Within a few weeks, millions of teachers found themselves forced to teach online, often with little systematic preparation and in their own homes. While this mode of teaching was earlier seen to be supplementary to brick-and-mortar classes, online teaching has become pivotal to the classroom experience. The chapter authors write of shared experiences that encapsulate the challenges faced by faculty, students and also higher education institutions. The book covers what worked, what did not work and what had to be changed during the rapid shift to online synchronous and asynchronous teaching during the lockdowns. Comprising both theoretical and practical perspectives, this book provides one of the first authoritative analyses of the field, while gathering lessons to be learned from the pandemic.

Sustainable Practices in Higher Education Finance, Strategy, and Engagement

Free Download Thomas Walker, "Sustainable Practices in Higher Education: Finance, Strategy, and Engagement"
English | ISBN: 3031278062 | 2023 | 273 pages | PDF | 7 MB
This edited collection presents, reviews, and critically analyzes sustainable practices and long-term-oriented decision-making in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Campus closures and the quick transition to hybrid or e-learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic caused HEI stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff, to swiftly adopt new ways of learning, teaching, and administering that were unfathomable only months before. This radical and challenging shift left many in academia with a sense that there is tremendous potential for HEIs to take the lead – both from an educational and practical standpoint – in fostering on- and off-campus sustainability and combatting climate change. In this book, the editors and their contributors systematically highlight current challenges that are slowing or derailing HEIs’ finance-related initiatives and practices geared toward sustainability. The case studies collected in this book provide a holistic overview of the ways inwhich financial and other long-term decisions can lead to more sustainable practices in higher education.

Free Download Yusuf Ikbal Oldac, "Student Agency and Self-Formation in Higher Education "
English | ISBN: 3031448847 | 2023 | 260 pages | PDF | 6 MB
This edited volume argues for positioning students at the centre of higher education, drawing from the concepts of student agency and self-formation. The volume highlights that higher education has broader and more important purposes than what a neoliberal human capital approach would suggest, and explores how students exercise their agency and realise self-formation as inherently connected concepts throughout university education. With disciplinary, cultural, and contextual diversity, this volume will provide international perspectives to readers interested in higher education theories, policies, and practices.

Philosophy’s Higher Education

At about the age of 13 I began to realise that my formal education was separating itself off from my philosophical education. Of course, at the time I did not know it in this way. I experienced it as a split between what I was being taught and my experience of what I was being taught. It was, I now know, the philosophical experience of formal schooling. It was not until beginning the study of sociology at 16 that I came across the idea of dualisms―pairs of opposites that always appeared together but were never reconciled. In sociology it was the dualism of the individual and society. The question most asked in our classes was always regarding which aspect of the dualism dominated the other. The answer we always leaned towards was that both were mutually affected by the other. The answer seemed to lie somewhere in the middle. It was only at university, first as an undergraduate and then as a postgraduate, that I came across the idea of the dialectic. Slowly I began to recognise that the dualisms which plagued social theory―I and we, self and other, good and evil, modernity and post-modernity, autonomy and heteronomy, freedom and nature, truth and relativism, and so many more―were not only dialectical in being thought about, but also that the thought of them being dialectical had an even stranger quality. It was the same experience as being at school.

Higher-Order Growth Curves and Mixture Modeling with Mplus A Practical Guide

Free Download Kandauda Wickrama, "Higher-Order Growth Curves and Mixture Modeling with Mplus: A Practical Guide "
English | ISBN: 1138925152 | 2016 | 326 pages | EPUB | 21 MB
This practical introduction to second-order and growth mixture models using Mplus introduces simple and complex techniques through incremental steps. The authors extend latent growth curves to second-order growth curve and mixture models and then combine the two. To maximize understanding, each model is presented with basic structural equations, figures with associated syntax that highlight what the statistics mean, Mplus applications, and an interpretation of results. Examples from a variety of disciplines demonstrate the use of the models and exercises allow readers to test their understanding of the techniques. A comprehensive introduction to confirmatory factor analysis, latent growth curve modeling, and growth mixture modeling is provided so the book can be used by readers of various skill levels. The book’s datasets are available on the web.
