The US Foreign Policy in the Horn of Africa The Cold War Era 1945-1990

English | ISBN: 2384546856 | 2023 | 171 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
From the historical perspective, the Cold War can be regarded as an extension and continuation of colonialism via different means. The tools and methods that the superpowers, as well as local allies used, were in many ways similar to those desired during the last stage of European colonialism: gigantic economic and social projects, the promises of progress and modernization to the supporters, and almost death to the opponents or those who dare to step on the way of progress.

Life on the Golden Horn

Free Download Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, "Life on the Golden Horn"
English | 2007 | pages: 128 | ISBN: 0141025425 | EPUB | 1,6 mb
Travelling through the wartorn Balkans with her husband on what proved to be a wholly useless diplomatic mission to Constantinople, Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762) left a vivid, informative, clever account of her adventures in the mysterious, sophisticated culture of Ottoman palaces, bathing places and courts which – even as her husband’s career was falling apart – she could not have enjoyed more. "Great Journeys" allows readers to travel both around the planet and back through the centuries – but also back into ideas and worlds frightening, ruthless and cruel in different ways from our own. Few reading experiences can begin to match that of engaging with writers who saw astounding things: Great civilisations, walls of ice, violent and implacable jungles, deserts and mountains, multitudes of birds and flowers new to science. Reading these books is to see the world afresh, to rediscover a time when many cultures were quite strange to each other, where legends and stories were treated as facts and in which so much was still to be discovered.

Historical Sociology of State Formation in the Horn of Africa

Free Download Historical Sociology of State Formation in the Horn of Africa: Genesis, Trajectories, Processes, Routes and Consequences by Redie Bereketeab
English | PDF | 2023 | 257 Pages | ISBN : 3031241614 | 3.9 MB
This book analyses the historical sociology of state formation in the Horn of Africa. It examines the genesis, trajectories, processes, routes and consequences of the evolution of state formation. Three analytical and explanatory models explain the process of state formation in the HOA: proto-state, colonial and national liberation. The models, heuristically and innovatively, provide understanding, interpretation and analysis of state formation. While the proto-state model explicates an indigenous historical process of state formation, the colonial model refers to an externally designed and imposed process of state formation. The national liberation model concern state formation conducted under liberation movement and ideology. The distinct significance of these models is that collectively they generate sufficient analysis of state formation. They are also unique in that they have never been employed as aggregate analytical and explicative instruments to address the predicament of state formation in the Horn of Africa.

Have you ever wanted to come a blow your horn in New Orleans? Well we did. We stayed in the French Quarter and explored just about everything in every street. We spent our nights in the jazz joints and just loved Preservation Hall. We walked the streets of the Garden district with its imposing mansions and tree lined streets. We read the headstones and heard the stories in the cemeteries and didn’t meet any ghosts. We shopped in the downtown harbour district, explored the Cajun cooking and went dinner-dancing on the Natchez.
