Innovations in Collaborative Urban Regeneration

Free Download Innovations in Collaborative Urban Regeneration By Hideki Koizumi (auth.), M Horita, H Koizumi (eds.)
2009 | 179 Pages | ISBN: 4431992634 | PDF | 6 MB
In creating urban space, there is always an exchange of dialogue as to what the space currently is and how it ought to exist, by those who live in that place, those who have a stake in its future, and those who sense the need for improvement in its harsh reality. Some of their thoughts materialize in the form of a physical change to the current environment – and urban regene- tion is one such form. This process in which people redefine their living environment and socially reconstruct the meaning and value of a place is all too important in deciding what, if any, change should be introduced in the form of a physical project. Some might argue that this communicative process is indeed the very core or even the definition of urban regeneration rather than a mere condition for instigation. However, it has also been observed that such a communicative process is often difficult to manage, if it happens at all. Social exclusion, power imbalance, conflict, indifference, and lack of c- municative social capital are the usual suspects in collective inaction, but it is also true that they are familiar constituents of any urban life. In some social contexts, little attention has been paid to such complexity.

Online File Sharing Innovations In Media Consumption

Free Download Online File Sharing: Innovations In Media Consumption By Jonas Andersson Schwarz
2014 | 249 Pages | ISBN: 041585430X | PDF | 2 MB
It is apparent that file sharing on the Internet has become an emerging norm of media consumption-especially among young people. This book provides a critical perspective on this phenomenon, exploring issues related to file sharing, downloading, peer-to-peer networks, "piracy," and (not least) policy issues regarding these practices. Andersson Schwartz critically engages with the justificatory discourses of the actual file-sharers, taking Sweden as a geographic focus. By focusing on the example of Sweden-home to both The Pirate Bay and Spotify-he provides a unique insight into a mentality that drives both innovation and deviance and accommodates sharing in both its unadulterated and its compliant, business-friendly forms.

Pedagogical Innovations in Foreign Language Learning via Interlocutor Familiarity

Free Download Christine E. Poteau, "Pedagogical Innovations in Foreign Language Learning via Interlocutor Familiarity"
English | ISBN: 1443881678 | 2017 | 155 pages | PDF | 570 KB
Creating classroom spaces that allow for increased learner participation and lowered anxiety levels allows for an inclusive learning environment. Continuing collaborative efforts to challenge theories and further test methodologies by drawing upon research studies helps researchers and educators to become more informed about individual learner preferences and classroom contextual factors and to foster meaningful learning environments across disciplines. Specifically, examining distinct learner contexts can allow educators to explore new avenues of pedagogical design to improve learning contexts. Taking into consideration diverse approaches to language pedagogies, distinct learning styles, and the growing need to develop intercultural competence in communities and professions across the globe, this book will serve to help educators transform classrooms into socially engaging environments, and explores innovative ways in which pedagogical performance and learning experiences can be improved. Drawing upon sociocultural theory, cognitive theory, and affective factors in foreign language learning, this study is based on doctoral research that explores the effects of interlocutor familiarity in group settings in two beginner-level language courses. Reflecting on diverse learner perspectives and individual learner factors can allow educators to increase learners connections to content and transform the way we approach pedagogical methods and diverse learner needs.
