Free Download Sanem Şahin, "Reporting Conflict and Peace in Cyprus: Journalism Matters"
English | ISBN: 3030950093 | 2022 | 226 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This book studies journalism in Cyprus to understand how journalists negotiate their roles and responsibilities in conflict-affected societies. In Cyprus, journalism has navigated through the pressures and challenges of intercommunal and political tensions. The book outlines a historical context of the conflict, also known as the Cyprus problem and discusses the news media’s involvement in it. However, the primary concern is journalists’ perceptions of their professional roles and external forces affecting their work. It examines the impact of political, economic and organisational influences, media ownership and technological developments on their work through interviews conducted with journalists. It studies professional and ethical challenges journalists experience, especially when reporting intercommunal relations. Finally, it explores the impact of digital media on journalism and the public debate on the Cyprus problem.

Politics and Journalism in Francophone Africa Systems, Practices and Identities

Free Download Marie-Soleil Frère, "Politics and Journalism in Francophone Africa: Systems, Practices and Identities"
English | ISBN: 3030994015 | 2022 | 376 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book provides a comprehensive approach of the media, journalism and politics in Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa. The author argues that there are common features that the media and journalism share in the seventeen countries of Francophone Africa and these make the local media systems different from what they are in neighboring English-speaking African countries, and in the rest of the world. The approach of the media in French-speaking Africa has not only to be "de-Westernized", but also to step out of general overviews considering "African media." This project shows the historical, political, economic and sociological characteristics of the media systems of seventeen French-speaking countries of Africa.

Indian Journalism and the Impact of Social Media

Free Download Dhiman Chattopadhyay, "Indian Journalism and the Impact of Social Media "
English | ISBN: 3031073177 | 2022 | 282 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book is a pan-India study that examines social media’s impact on Indian journalism, highlights emerging challenges, and discusses the way forward for India’s newsrooms. A result of three years of field work, the project uses mixed-methods research – a survey of nearly 300 journalists from 15 Indian cities, followed by in-depth interviews with 25 senior editors – to analyze and explain journalists’ perceptions about social media’s usefulness and credibility, factors that influence their online news sourcing and sharing decisions, resultant challenges for newsrooms, and ways to address those challenges. The findings offer unique insights into how newer forces are influencing journalistic practices in an online-first era. Key differences emerge in perceptions between Indian journalists and their Western compatriots about who or what influence their actions. The findings also raise questions about Gatekeeping as a term to describe journalistic work in 21st Century India’s newsrooms. The findings and the conclusions will hopefully help journalists, educators, and anyone interested in Indian journalism gain a deeper, more meaningful understanding about social media’s impact on Indian journalism, and the way ahead for India’s newsrooms.
