D.H. Lawrence: The Thinker as Poet addresses a particular body of language and thought within Lawrence’s oeuvre where the metaphorical, the poetic and the philosophical are intricately enmeshed. Lawrence emerges as a writer who pulls metaphor away from its merely rhetorical moorings: his distinctive style is the hallmark of one who thinks not analytically but poetically, about the birth of the self, the body unconscious, complex kinds of otherness and about metaphor itself as a mode of understanding.

Lawrence Of Arabia

Free Download B. H. Liddell Hart, "Lawrence Of Arabia"
English | 1989 | pages: 458 | ISBN: 0306803542 | EPUB | 5,8 mb
T. E. Shaw, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, was one of the most romantic, heroic, and enigmatic figures of his day. The subject of myth and hagiography, he was equally accomplished in several fields – as archaeologist, diplomat, writer, and soldier – and he worked throughout World War I and after in the Middle East in efforts to promote independent Arab states. His autobiography Seven Pillars of Wisdom is one of the greatest works of its kind. The esteemed military historian B. H. Liddell Hart wrote this study of Lawrence in order to pierce the clouds of legend. He discussed Lawrence’s Oxford days, his experiences as an intelligence officer in Egypt, and in particular the tactics of guerrilla warfare he practiced so effectively against the large Turkish armies during World War I. Liddell Hart was one of the few to give Lawrence his full justice as both a man and a brilliant soldier. Long out-of-print, this book unravels the many puzzling features of Lawrence’s story and restores him to his proper place as one of the twentieth century’s heroic, but very human, figures.

Jeffrey Meyers, the author of highly acclaimed biographies of Hemingway and George Orwell, offers this masterly work on British novelist D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930). Meyers’ fresh insights into Lawrence’s life illuminate Lawrence’s working-class childhood, his tempestuous marriage, and his death in France after the scandalous publication of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, revealing Lawrence’s complex method of intermingling autobiography and fiction. Through intensive research and access to unpublished essays and letters of Lawrence and his circle, Meyers describes the circumstances of his mother’s death, the reason for the suppression of The Rainbow, and the author’s protean (and extreme) sexuality that mirrored that of his fiction.

A lifelong Pan-Africanist, Reddick also fought for decolonization and black self-determination alongside Kwame Nkrumah, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Leopold Senghor, and W. E. B. Du Bois. In 2003 the US Supreme Court overturned anti-sodomy laws across the country, ruling in Lawrence v. Texas that the Constitution protects private consensual sex between adults. To some, the decision seemed to come like lightning from above, altering the landscape of America’s sexual politics all at once. In actuality, many years of work and organizing led up to the legal case, and the landmark ruling might never have happened were it not for the passionate struggle of Texans who rejected their state’s discriminatory laws.
