Wie kaum ein anderes Thema der Umweltdiskussion hat die ‘Müllawine’ in den 90er Jahren die deutsche Öffentlichkeit bewegt. Die vorliegende wissenssoziologische Diskursanalyse untersucht den Tanz um den Müll in Deutschland und Frankreich. Im Vergleich der Debatten und ihrer Akteure wird sichtbar, wie unterschiedliche Verständnisse von Staat und Zivilgesellschaft, von Natur, Technik und der Bedeutung der Dinge die gesellschaftlichen Abfallverhältnisse und unser aller alltägliche Abfallproduktion prägen. Zugleich wird ein exemplarischer diskursanalytischer Zugang vorgestellt, der über das Thema der Untersuchung hinaus für Analysen gesellschaftlicher Umwelt- und Risikokonflikte sowie anderer öffentlicher Problemthematisierungen von Interesse ist.
