Mastering the New Media Landscape Embrace the Micromedia Mindset

Free Download Barbara Cave Henricks, "Mastering the New Media Landscape: Embrace the Micromedia Mindset"
English | 2016 | ISBN: 0369381289 | EPUB | pages: 340 | 2.6 mb
The world of mass media, in which a few, prime national outlets controlled the messages we all see and hear, has largely vanished. The giant boulders you once had to move to get coverage – Oprah, the New York Times, CNN – have been smashed by the Internet, supplanted (but not entirely replaced) by scores of pebbles: the web sites, social media, blogs, podcasts and more that ace publicists Barbara Cave Henricks and Rusty Shelton call micromedia. This new breed of outlets is key to capturing public attention. Henricks and Shelton urge you to think less like a marketer and more like a media executive. Using real world examples and colorful anecdotes, they explain how to build a direct channel to your audience that you own. They offer tips for making the best use of rented space on forums like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, among others. Further, they illustrate how attention in the online world can help you get the earned media attention of the still powerful outlets in the traditional space. This book puts you at the controls of creating momentum and building a personal audience. It allows you to take action, rather than wait for the media gatekeepers to unlock their doors or the general public to create the groundswell of ””going viral.”” Henricks and Shelton look past the attention – getting stunts to reveal the solid strategies and tactics that work.

Mass Media and Historical Change Germany in International Perspective, 1400 to the Present

Free Download Mass Media and Historical Change: Germany in International Perspective, 1400 to the Present By Frank Bösch, Freya Buechter
2015 | 212 Pages | ISBN: 1782386254 | PDF | 2 MB
"This is an excellent, wide-ranging, and expertly researched survey of the historical role of mass media in the Western world. It is original, concise, and well written, and provides a wealth of information that is not easily accessible elsewhere… t is held together by analytical questions on the role of mass media in mirroring and fostering cultural, social, economic, and political change… The breadth of the survey is admirable and so is its academic rigor." · Christina von Hodenberg, Queen Mary University of London
Media influenced politics, culture, and everyday life long before the invention of the Internet. This book shows how the advent of new media has changed societies in modern history, focusing not on the specifics of technology but rather on their distribution, use, and impact. Using Germany as an example for international trends, it compares the advent of printing in Europe and East Asia, and the impact of the press on revolutions, nation building, and wars in North America and Europe. The rise of tabloids and film is discussed as an international phenomenon, as the importance of media during National Socialism is looked at in comparison with Fascist Italy and Spain. Finally, this book offers a precise analysis of media during the Cold War, with divided Germany providing the central case study. Frank Bösch is a Professor at the University of Potsdam and Director of the Center for Contemporary History. He is the author and editor of more than a dozen books on political, social, and media history, including Journalists as Political Actors: Transfers and Interactions Between Britain and Germany since the Late 19th Century (co-edited with Dominik Geppert, 2008) and Public History (co-edited with Constantin Goschler, 2009). He is also co-editor of the journal Zeithistorische Forschungen/Studies in Contemporary History.

Indian Journalism and the Impact of Social Media

Free Download Dhiman Chattopadhyay, "Indian Journalism and the Impact of Social Media "
English | ISBN: 3031073177 | 2022 | 282 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book is a pan-India study that examines social media’s impact on Indian journalism, highlights emerging challenges, and discusses the way forward for India’s newsrooms. A result of three years of field work, the project uses mixed-methods research – a survey of nearly 300 journalists from 15 Indian cities, followed by in-depth interviews with 25 senior editors – to analyze and explain journalists’ perceptions about social media’s usefulness and credibility, factors that influence their online news sourcing and sharing decisions, resultant challenges for newsrooms, and ways to address those challenges. The findings offer unique insights into how newer forces are influencing journalistic practices in an online-first era. Key differences emerge in perceptions between Indian journalists and their Western compatriots about who or what influence their actions. The findings also raise questions about Gatekeeping as a term to describe journalistic work in 21st Century India’s newsrooms. The findings and the conclusions will hopefully help journalists, educators, and anyone interested in Indian journalism gain a deeper, more meaningful understanding about social media’s impact on Indian journalism, and the way ahead for India’s newsrooms.

Immigrant Generations, Media Representations, and Audiences

Free Download Omotayo O. Banjo, "Immigrant Generations, Media Representations, and Audiences"
English | ISBN: 3030753107 | 2021 | 351 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This anthology examines how immigrants and their US-born children use media to negotiate their American identity and how audiences engage with mediated narratives about the immigrant experience (cultural adjustments, language use, and the like). Where this work diverges from other collections and monographs is the area is its intentional focus on how both first- and second-generation Americans’ complex identities and hybrid cultures interact with mediated narratives in general, alongside the extent to which these narratives reflect their experience. In a three-part structure, the collection examines representations, "zooms in" to explore the reception of these narratives through autoethnographic essays, and concludes in a section of analysis and critique of specific media.

Handbook of Japanese Media and Popular Culture in Transition

Free Download Forum Mithani, "Handbook of Japanese Media and Popular Culture in Transition "
English | ISBN: 9463728899 | 2022 | 296 pages | PDF | 2 MB
The Handbook of Japanese Media and Popular Culture in Transition brings together new research and perspectives on popular media phenomena, as well as shining a spotlight on texts that are less well known or studied. Organized into five thematic sections, the chapters span a diverse range of cultural genres, including contemporary film and television, postwar cinema, advertising, popular fiction, men’s magazines, manga and anime, karaoke and digital media. They address issues critical to contemporary Japanese society: the politicization of history, authenticity and representation, constructions of identity, trauma and social disaffection, intersectionality and trans/nationalism. Drawing on methods and approaches from a range of disciplines, the chapters make explicit the interconnections between these areas of research and map out possible trajectories for future inquiry. As such, the handbook will be of value to both novice scholars and seasoned researchers, working within and/or beyond the Japanese media studies remit.

Globalisation, Freedom and the Media after Communism The Past as Future

Free Download Birgit Beumers, Stephen Hutchings, Natalia Rulyova, "Globalisation, Freedom and the Media after Communism: The Past as Future"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0415483514, 0415508819 | PDF | pages: 173 | 1.4 mb
This book examines the fate of post-Soviet press freedom and media culture in the context of the growing impact of globalisation. To understand the complicated situation that has arisen with respect to these issues in post-Soviet space is impossible without collaboration between political scientists, sociologists, cultural analysts, media studies researchers and media practitioners. The book is one of the first attempts to bridge the gaps between political and cultural studies approaches, between textual analysis and audience research, as well as between practitioner-led and scholarly approaches to the post-Soviet media The cumulative impact of the essays contained in this section is to reinforce the intuition which inspired it: that the post-Soviet media remain a highly heterogeneous, complex and dynamic field for investigation. With contributions from scholars and journalists across Europe (including the former Soviet Union), the collection addresses such issues as censorship and elections, the legacy of the Soviet past, terrorism and the media, the post-Soviet business press, advertising and nation building, official press discourse and entrepreneurship, and global formats on Russian television.

Domestic photography refers to the culture of ordinary people capturing, sharing and using photographs, and is in a particular state of flux today as photos go digital. The book argues that this digital era is the third major chapter in the 170 year history of the area; following the portrait and Kodak eras of the past.

Environmental Communication for Children Media, Young Audiences, and the More-Than-Human World

Free Download Erin Hawley, "Environmental Communication for Children: Media, Young Audiences, and the More-Than-Human World "
English | ISBN: 3031046900 | 2022 | 243 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book explores the nexus between children, media, and nature during a time of planetary crisis marked by climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. In this time of planetary emergency, children have become an increasingly visible part of conversations about the human/nature relationship – they have also become an important market for environmentally-themed media content. Indeed, recent years have seen a proliferation of environmental texts, products, and narratives for young people: children are recognised and addressed as audiences for environmental content across a range of media including news, films, television programs, magazines, videogames, and transmedia franchises. Through analysis of a range of case studies, this book examines the construction of children as green audiences, the intersection between media and environmental literacies, and the mainstreaming of children’s voices in environmental communication. The book will appeal to readers with an interest in children’s media and the industry imperatives that shape the production of children’s culture as well as to students, scholars, and practitioners in the field of environmental communication.
