German Naval Camouflage Volume One 1939-1941 (2024)

Free Download John Asmussen, Eric Leon – German Naval Camouflage Volume One 1939-1941
Seaforth Publishing | 2012 | ISBN: 1848321422 | English | 195 pages | PDF | 205.05 MB
For half a century German warship camouflage has been something of a mystery for warship enthusiasts and modelmakers. The widespread destruction of naval archives at the end of the war left little documentation, while the ad hoc application of unofficial schemes in theatres like Norway led to many variegated and frequently altered patterns. This book, therefore, is based on close scrutiny of all available photos, including many only recently discovered, collated with the first-hand testimony of Kriegsmarine survivors. After decades of study, the authors are the world s leading experts, and their work challenges many accepted views, while greatly expanding the general understanding of the subject. The fruits of their labours are presented in the form of exquisite colour illustrations of every scheme and variation for which evidence is available. For major ships these are sometimes only months apart, giving as complete a representation of their camouflage history as possible. There are no speculative views if, for example, only the starboard side is known, there is no attempt to reconstruct a port side so all information is reliable. This volume covers destroyers and all larger ships during the early war years, with a second part devoted to 1942-45 planned for completion in 2013. For warship enthusiasts its publication will be a major event, and it is certain to become the standard reference.

English | 2010 | pages: 256 | ISBN: 1848841957, 184415629X | EPUB | 2,1 mb
Hank Adlam began his naval flying career in 1941, his first operational posting was to the newly formed No. 890 Squadron. The squadron’s first operational role was to protect a convoy sailing from New York and bound for Greenock. Their major task was to protect the ship’s squadron of Fairey Swordfish anti-submarine aircraft and to destroy any long-range Lufwaffe Fw Condor reconnaissance patrols that were transmitting convoy positions to the waiting U-boat wolf-packs. During this first operational voyage he lost his best friend who was shot down. Later, on this same initiation to front-line operational flying, Hank was forced to ditch into gale-torn Atlantic Ocean.

Naval Warfare 1914-1918 From Coronel To The Atlantic And Zeebrugge (The History of World War I)

English | 2012 | pages: 224 | ISBN: 1906626162 | EPUB | 12,4 mb
The struggle for naval supremacy and the naval arms race inspired by HMS Dreadnought may have captured the headlines, but the opening stages of the naval war were dominated by the threat from German cruisers stationed outside European waters, until they were hunted down and sunk by the Royal Navy, notably at the Battle of the Falkland Islands in 1914. Germany switched its focus to the U-boat, seeing it as a weapon capable of winning the war by starving Britain into surrender. Unrestricted submarine warfare led to the sinking of millions of tons of shipping, but it would also force the USA to enter the war on the Allied side in 1917. In the Mediterranean, the French fleet took the lead, while Austria-Hungary supported German actions. The Allied attempt in 1915 to use maritime power to break the strategic deadlock with an amphibious operation in the Dardanelles ultimately failed, although Allied sea power helped sustain the successful campaigns against the Ottoman Empire in the Middle East.

Portsmouth Harbor’s Military and Naval Heritage

English | 2004 | pages: 128 | ISBN: 0738536474, 1531621392 | EPUB | 46,0 mb
Including more than two hundred vintage photographs and illustrations, Portsmouth Harbor’s Military and Naval Heritage chronicles the history of the Piscataqua River’s naval shipyard and harbor defenses. Long before it became home to one of the U.S. Navy’s first federal shipyards, the harbor at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine, was protected by gun batteries, mainly at Fort Point, New Castle, New Hampshire. By the end of World War II, modern concrete batteries mounting guns of ever longer range had been constructed at this and three other forts straddling the river’s mouth. These fortifications reflected the increasingly important role of the shipyard, dedicated after 1917 to building submarines that contributed significantly to the World War II victory.
