Robert Forczyk covers the development of armored warfare in North Africa from the earliest Anglo-Italian engagements in 1940 to the British victory over the German Afrikakorps in Operation Crusader in 1941.
The war in the North African desert was pure mechanized warfare, and in many respects the most technologically advanced theatre of World War II. It was also the only theatre where for three years British and Commonwealth, and later United States, troops were in constant contact with Axis forces.
World War II bestselling author Robert Forczyk explores the first half of the history of the campaign, from the initial Italian offensive and the arrival of Rommel’s Panzergruppe Afrika to the British Operation Crusader offensive that led to the relief of Tobruk. He examines the armored forces, equipment, doctrine, training, logistics and operations employed by both Allied and Axis forces throughout the period, focusing especially on the brigade and regimental level of operations.

Women in the Middle East and North Africa Restoring Women to History

Free Download Women in the Middle East and North Africa: Restoring Women to History By Guity Nashat; Judith E. Tucker
1999 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 0253334780 | PDF | 4 MB
Tracing the evolution of the role of women from ancient Middle Eastern societies through the 17th century, Guity Nashat employs a rational-choice theoretical framework, examining the interplay between local practices and early Islamic beliefs and institutions. As Islam expanded throughout the area, the foundations of Islamic law and practice with regard to women underwent significant development. Judith Tucker surveys women’s gender issues in the 19th- and 20th-century Middle East, with a particular focus on economic activity, access to political power, and contributions to cultural life. Her essay also addresses the role that Islam and indigenous custom are thought to play in shaping women’s lives.

Tom Thomson artist of the North

Free Download Tom Thomson: artist of the North By Larsen, Wayne;Thomson, Tom
2011 | 189 Pages | ISBN: 1554887720 | EPUB | 1 MB
Tom Thomson (1877-1917) occupies a prominent position in Canada’s national culture and has become a celebrated icon for his magnificent landscapes as well as for his brief life and mysterious death. The shy, enigmatic artist and woodsman’s innovative painting style produced such seminal Canadian images as The Jack Pine and The West Wind, while his untimely drowning nearly a century ago is still a popular subject of fierce debate. Originally a commercial artist, Thomson fell in love with the forests and lakes of Ontario’s Algonquin Park and devoted himself to rendering the north country’s changing seasons in a series of colourful sketches and canvases. Dividing his time between his beloved wilderness and a shack behind the Studio Building near downtown Toronto, Thomson was a major inspiration to his painter friends who, not long after his death, went on to change the course of Canadian art as the influential – and equally controversial – Group of Seven.

Land Grabbing and Conflict in the North West Region of Cameroon

Free Download René Ngek Monteh, "Land Grabbing and Conflict in the North West Region of Cameroon"
English | ISBN: 1527556328 | 2024 | 397 pages | PDF | 5 MB
In Cameroon, conflicts emerging from land ownership and boundary discrepancies have reached record heights with the North West Region serving as the theatre of land and boundary conflicts. These conflicts are not just rampant, but have taken shifting positions, making the much-cherished desire for peaceful cohabitation a far-fetched possibility. As this book shows, the ordinances of the 1970s which stopped traditional communities from making claims of ownership of land, the unwillingness of the traditional elite to understand and accept the arbitrary colonial imposed boundaries, and the dubious role played by those in authority in an attempt to solve or identify the root causes of these conflicts constituted the bed rock for the emergence of multi-dimensional problems. This book argues that conflicts in the North West Region have been promoted by the colonial factor, the authorities’ insistence on focusing on the consequences rather than on the deep causes, land laws, administrative orders and formally made arrangements. It argues very strongly that conflicts in the North West Region have become so protracted that solving them has been an uphill task.
