Get older without getting old! Welcome to the dazzling new world of SuperAging, where everything you’ve been taught about aging is challenged. Getting older does not need to mean the end of accomplishment and growth. For SuperAgers, the period after age sixty-five can be one of the most productive and fulfilling times of life. SuperAging is already a reality for millions. But the science, business, and culture of aging have changed at such a rapid pace that they can be hard to keep up with. That’s where authors David Cravit and Larry Wolf can help. They’ve broken SuperAging down into seven simple components-Attitude, Awareness, Activity, Autonomy, Achievement, Attachment, and Avoidance-and in this groundbreaking book, they show how you can put these forces to work in your own life.

Time of Our Lives Celebrating Older Women

Free Download Maggie Kirkman PhD, "Time of Our Lives: Celebrating Older Women"
English | ISBN: 1922633720 | 2023 | 320 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Time of Our Lives presents the extraordinary lives of ordinary women in their seventies, eighties and nineties, challenging the stereotype of the helpless old woman who is nothing more than a burden. The first collection of its kind in Australia, it demonstrates the rich lives led by 21 women of diverse backgrounds, all born before 1946 and all of whom have achieved great things in older age. From Mig Dann, an 80-year-old artist who worked for David Bowie and completed a PhD in her seventies, to Pauline Lorenzen, a 75-year-old Indigenous solicitor working to support women; from Robina Rogan, a boat-builder planning a sea voyage at age 82, to Rosemary Salvaris, a 76-year-old civil celebrant who has taken up orienteering, these women show that learning has no age limit. As the generation of Australian women who waved the flag for feminism enter retirement, let’s change the conversation around what it means to be ‘old’. Our ageing population is not a burden – it’s time to celebrate the contributions that older women make to our community.

Incarceration and Older Women Giving Back Not Giving Up

Free Download Regina Benedict, "Incarceration and Older Women: Giving Back Not Giving Up"
English | ISBN: 1529231612 | 2023 | 142 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Generativity or ‘giving back’ is regarded as a common life stage, occurring for many around middle age. For the first time, this book offers qualitative research on the lives and social relationships of older imprisoned women. In-depth interviews with 29 female prisoners in the south-eastern United States show that older women both engage in generative behaviours in prison and also wish to do so upon their release. As prisoners continue to age, the US finds itself at a crossroads on prison reform, with potential decarceration beginning with older prisoners. The COVID-19 pandemic has led many to consider how to thrive under difficult circumstances and in stressing the resilience of older incarcerated women, this book envisions what this could look like.

Optimizing Pharmacotherapy in Older Patients

Free Download Optimizing Pharmacotherapy in Older Patients: An Interdisciplinary Approach
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031280601 | 857 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 13 MB
This book summarizes the broad and rapidly evolving field of geriatric pharmacotherapy, which is becoming increasingly relevant for practicing physicians who care and prescribe medications for older patients. Around the globe, ageing populations are associated with an increased prevalence of chronic diseases. Older adults are often affected by multimorbidity, i.e., suffer from more than one chronic disease. The main consequence of multimorbidity is polypharmacy, which is commonly defined as the regular use of five or more medicines. Polypharmacy has now reached epidemic proportions in our societies, and is associated with an increased risk of drug-drug interactions, drug-disease interactions and adverse drug reactions. The management of polypharmacy in older patients with complex multimorbidity poses several challenges and needs to be based on specific knowledge and prescribing expertise.

Transnational Migration and Home in Older Age

Free Download Lena Näre, "Transnational Migration and Home in Older Age"
English | 2016 | ISBN: 1138887862, 0367869322 | PDF | pages: 282 | 1.1 mb
This book examines the transformations in home lives arising in later life and resulting from global migrations. It provides insight into the ways in which contemporary demographic processes of aging and migration shape the meaning, experience and making of home for those in older age. Chapters explore how home is negotiated in relation to possibilities for return to the "homeland," family networks, aging and health, care cultures and belonging. The book deliberately crosses emerging sub-fields in transnationalism studies by offering case studies on aging labour migrants, retirement migrants, and return migrants, as well as older people affected by the movement of others including family members and migrant care workers. The diversity of people’s experiences of home in later life is fully explored and the impact of social class, gender, and nationality, as well as the corporeal dimensions of older age, are all in evidence.
