Post-Shrinkage Strategies in Statistical and Machine Learning for High Dimensional Data

Free Download Post-Shrinkage Strategies in Statistical and Machine Learning for High Dimensional Data by Syed Ejaz Ahmed
English | May 25, 2023 | ISBN: 0367763443 | 408 pages | MOBI | 22 Mb
This book presents some post-estimation and predictions strategies for the host of useful statistical models with applications in data science. It combines statistical learning and machine learning techniques in a unique and optimal way. It is well-known that machine learning methods are subject to many issues relating to bias, and consequently the mean squared error and prediction error may explode. For this reason, we suggest shrinkage strategies to control the bias by combining a submodel selected by a penalized method with a model with many features. Further, the suggested shrinkage methodology can be successfully implemented for high dimensional data analysis. Many researchers in statistics and medical sciences work with big data. They need to analyse this data through statistical modelling. Estimating the model parameters accurately is an important part of the data analysis. This book may be a repository for developing improve estimation strategies for statisticians. This book will help researchers and practitioners for their teaching and advanced research, and is an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses involving shrinkage, statistical, and machine learning.

The Risen Phoenix charts the changing landscape of black politics and political culture in the postwar South by focusing on the careers of six black congressmen who served between the Civil War and the turn of the nineteenth century: John Mercer Langston of Virginia, James Thomas Rapier of Alabama, Robert Smalls of South Carolina, John Roy Lynch of Mississippi, Josiah Thomas Walls of Florida, and George Henry White of North Carolina. Drawing on a rich combination of traditional political history, gender and black history, and the history of U.S. foreign relations, the book argues that African American congressmen effectively served their constituents’ interests while also navigating their way through a tumultuous post-Civil War Southern political environment.

Gender and Politics in Post-Reformasi Indonesia Women Leaders within Local Oligarchy Networks

Free Download Kurniawati Hastuti Dewi, "Gender and Politics in Post-Reformasi Indonesia: Women Leaders within Local Oligarchy Networks"
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9811917337, 9811917361 | PDF | pages: 169 | 4.7 mb
This book employs a gendered perspective to uncover an in-depth understanding of the political role of women leaders in local government in Indonesia. Beginning with the story of two women who successfully won the local elections in Indramayu in 2010 and Tangerang Selatan in 2011, respectively, the book uses their experiences as a point of departure to present a discussion on female political leaders’ part within the larger political dynastic structure in Indonesia. The book explores the multiple challenges and difficulties that these women encountered in reaching power and in promoting local democracy, highlighting the patriarchal nature of the oligarchy. In doing so, this book provides a rich empirical account of the current features of female political leaders and their political and familial, linkages. The research, thus, contributes significantly to the work of scholars and political activists seeking to unpack the process and progress of democratization in post-reformasiIndonesia, in which women’s political participation and leadership are an inevitable and vital part. In doing so, the book champions how Indonesian women are playing an increasingly important role in the democratic process, even in the face of the enduring challenges posed by familial ties and political dynasty factors that continue to hinder democratization―trends that are also prevalent across multiple Southeast Asian countries in the twenty-firstcentury. Relevant to scholars and students situated at the intersection of gender and politics, this translated and updated co-publication is atour de force, led by one of Indonesia’s seminal scholars in women’s studies.

White Narratives The Depiction of Post-2000 Land Invasions in Zimbabwe

Free Download Irikidzayi Manase, "White Narratives: The Depiction of Post-2000 Land Invasions in Zimbabwe"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 1868888258 | EPUB | pages: 160 | 1.3 mb
The post-2000 period in Zimbabwe saw the launch of a fast-track land reform programme, resulting in a flurry of accounts from white Zimbabweans about how they saw the land, the land invasions, and their own sense of belonging and identity. In White Narratives, Irikidzayi Manase engages with this fervent output of texts seeking definition of experiences, conflicts and ambiguities arising from the land invasions. He takes us through his study of texts selected from the memoirs, fictional and non-fictional accounts of white farmers and other displaced white narrators on the post-2000 Zimbabwe land invasions, scrutinising divisions between white and black in terms of both current and historical ideology, society and spatial relationships. He examines how the revisionist politics of the Zimbabwean government influenced the politics of identities and race categories during the period 2000-2008, and posits some solutions to the contestations for land and belonging. About the author Irikidzayi Manase teaches in the Department of English at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein Campus, South Africa. His areas of research fall within the broader area of literary cultural geographic studies of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Southern Africa and Africa. He has read papers at both local and international conferences and published on: imaginaries about and urban youth cultures of Johannesburg, Harare and South Africa’s Limpopo Province; the human condition and mapping of spaces in South African science fiction and speculative literature; transnational African migrant experiences; and literatures about the constitution of senses of self and belonging in relation to the land issue and crisis conditions in post-2000 Zimbabwe.

India-Russia Post Cold War Relations A New Epoch of Cooperation

Free Download Chandra Rekha, "India-Russia Post Cold War Relations: A New Epoch of Cooperation"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1138243590 | EPUB | pages: 222 | 1.3 mb
Post Cold War international relations have undeniably been a litmus test for the bilateral relations between India and Russia. With the emergence of a new international system, the foreign policies of both countries vacillated to explore new avenues of partnerships with other international players, an opportunity that otherwise proved effective to a large extent. National priorities and the geo-political architecture remodelled by the US, thus, compelled New Delhi and Moscow to pursue a foreign policy that moved away from serving the interests of each other. While defining the trends in the bilateral relations between the two countries, the strategic community has questioned whether the relationship can remain as special and strategic as it had been in the past. Are both countries still as relevant to one another as they once were?
