Displacement and Exile The State-Refugee Relations in India

Free Download Displacement and Exile: The State-Refugee Relations in India By Abhijit Dasgupta
2016 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0199461171 | PDF | 2 MB
This study highlights some emerging issues in the study of displaced persons in India, like the agency and voices of people who flee across an international border, the identities they forge for themselves, their relations with the hosts and their interactions with the state and non-governmental organizations. Three case studies are examined here: (a). aPartition refugeesa, from East Pakistan to West Bengal, (b). Tamil refugees, from Sri Lanka to India and (c). Bangladesh Liberation War refugees from East Pakistan to West Bengal. The reader will find that each case is in itself highly complex. The treatment meted out to the displaced people in India has not been consistent. This study shows that the responses of the state to cross-border displacement have been varied over time and space. The Indian state has sovereign rights to decide who is to be considered as a refugee, who should receive relief and rehabilitation and who is to be repatriated. In the absence of national laws for the refugees in India, the state is the final arbitrator on all such matters.

English | ISBN: 1138062618 | 2017 | 274 pages | EPUB | 981 KB
In Offending and Desistance, Beth Weaver examines the role of a co-offending peer group in shaping and influencing offending and desistance, focusing on three phases of their criminal careers: onset, persistence and desistance. While there is consensus across the body of desistance research that social relations have a role to play in variously constraining, enabling and sustaining desistance, no desistance studies have adequately analysed the dynamics or properties of social relations, or their relationship to individuals and social structures. This book aims to reset this balance.

Elements and Relations Aspects of a Scientific Metaphysics

Free Download Elements and Relations: Aspects of a Scientific Metaphysics by Martin Zwick
English | PDF (True) | 2023 | 711 Pages | ISBN : 3030994023 | 10.3 MB
This book develops the core proposition that systems theory is an attempt to construct an "exact and scientific metaphysics," a system of general ideas central to science that can be expressed mathematically. Collectively, these ideas would constitute a nonreductionist "theory of everything" unlike what is being sought in physics. Inherently transdisciplinary, systems theory offers ideas and methods that are relevant to all of the sciences and also to professional fields such as systems engineering, public policy, business, and social work. To demonstrate the generality and importance of the systems project, the book structures its content in three parts: Essay, Notes, and Commentary. The Essay section is a short distillation of systems ideas that illuminate the problems that many types of systems face. Commentary explains systems thinking, its value, and its relation to mainstream scientific knowledge. It shows how systems ideas revise our understanding of science and how they impact our views on religion, politics, and history. Finally, Notes contains all the mathematics in the book, as well as scientific, philosophical, and poetic content that is accessible to readers without a strong mathematical background.
