English | ISBN: 365842446X | 2023 | 292 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This educational handbook displays grassroots experiences of peace, reconciliation, and healing in the Great Lakes region of Africa, in which Burundian, Congolese, and Rwandan authors share their understandings and practices of Memory Work. They committed to do so in a joint Participatory Action Research Team together with German facilitators. The team members ‘opened their archives’ on the traumatizing effects of the severe conflicts that each of these countries experienced. Their learnings and findings from this research process are collected in this book, which aims to resolve remaining tensions resulting from past experiences. Displaying a variety of strategies that lead to a Healing of Memories, it is high time to integrate such discourses into a mainly Western-European-centered scientific community. In this way, the book aims to fill the academic void regarding the German-colonial legacy of violence in the three neighboring countries, which was fueled under colonial rule. As such, this book is central to current discourses on the decolonization of science in terms of authorship, research ethics, and methods.

Remembering God Reflections on Islam

Free Download Remembering God: Reflections on Islam By Charles Le Gai Eaton
2000 | 241 Pages | ISBN: 193063708X | PDF | 9 MB
Written by the best-selling author of Islam and the Destiny of Man, Remembering God: Reflections on Islam is a profound analysis of the most urgent concerns and questions facing us at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Contrasting modern, secular society with religion and tradition in general and with Islam in particular, Gai Eaton clarifies the essential need for spirituality, religion and values based on eternal principles. The main ideas behind Remembering God are that religion is not an isolated part of human life which can be disregarded at will and without consequences; that a total rejection of the past cannot be the basis for the future and that a true link with Heaven modifies all the decisions and actions of society. The continuity and harmony of the religious perspective contrasted with the dislocation and alienation of modern society is the theme that runs throughout the book, touching on religion in principle: metaphysics, knowledge of the div! ine and of oneself, supplication, the necessity for purifying the ego; and on the application of religion to society: politics, architecture, the environment and gender relations, Charles Le Gai Eaton illustrates the subtle harmony of a religious perspective and its abiity to transform both the individual and society.

Remembering Woodstock (Ashgate Popular and Folk Music Series)

Free Download Remembering Woodstock (Ashgate Popular and Folk Music Series) By Andy Bennett (editor)
2004 | 182 Pages | ISBN: 0754607143 | PDF | 14 MB
The Woodstock festival of 1969, which featured such groups and artists as the Who, Country Joe and the Fish, Ten Years After, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, is remembered as much for its ‘bringing together’ of the counter-cultural generation as for the music performed. The event represented a milestone in the use of music as a medium for political expression while simultaneously acting as a springboard for the more expressly commercial of rock and pop events which were to follow. In the thirty years since the festival took place, Woodstock has become the subject of many books, magazine articles and documentaries which have served to mythologise the event in the public imagination. These different aspects of the Woodstock festival will be discussed in this wide ranging book which brings together a number of established and new writers in the fields of sociology, media studies and popular music studies. Each of the five chapters which will focus on a specific aspect of the Woodstock festival and its continuing significance in relation to the music industry, the rock festival ‘tradition’, sixties nostalgia and the cultural impact of popular music.

Anti-Fascism and Memory in East Germany is a book about remembering and about forgetting, about war, and about the peace which eventually followed. In the unlikely setting of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), the Spanish Civil War became the subject of a debate which both predated and outlasted the Cold War, involving historians, veterans, politicians, censors, artists, writers, and Church activists. Examining these multiple memories and interpretations of Spain casts new and unexpected light on the legacy of the Spanish Civil War, and the relationship between history and memory under state socialism.

Memory and Remembering in Early Irish Literature Beyond the Backward Look

Free Download Sarah Künzler, "Memory and Remembering in Early Irish Literature: Beyond the Backward Look "
English | ISBN: 311079909X | 2023 | 370 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 3 MB
Ireland possesses an early and exceptionally rich medieval vernacular tradition in which memory plays a key role. What attitudes to remembering and forgetting are expressed in secular early Irish texts? How do the texts conceptualise the past and what does this conceptualisation tell us about the present and future? Who mediates and validates different versions of the past and how is future remembrance guaranteed? This study approaches such questions through close readings of individual texts. It centres on three major aspects of medieval Irish memory culture: places and landscapes, the provision of information about the past by miraculously old eye-witnesses, and the personal, social and cultural impact of forgetting. The discussions shed light on the relationship between memory and forgetting and explore the connections between the past, present and future. This shows the fascinating spatio-temporal identity constructions in medieval Ireland and links the Irish texts to the broader European world. The monograph makes this rich literary sources available to an interdisciplinary audience and is of interest to both a general medievalist audience and those working in Cultural Memory Studies.
