English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032247835 | 338 Pages | EPUB | 3 MB
The factors determining the formation of accounting principles in different countries have long been studied. Cultural conditions have been identified as one of the reasons for national variations. This issue is particularly important when there is an effort to harmonise and standardise accounting principles, in order to create a uniform system, which may be adopted globally. This book explores the impact of cultural conditions on the financial reporting quality of public companies preparing financial statements according to International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It discusses the main trends in the theory of capital and earnings in the economy. The book focuses on the relationship between the cultural dimensions under analysis, such as power distance, individualism/collectivism, masculinity/feminity, strong uncertainty/weak uncertainty, short/ long time orientation and indulgence/restraint, and the properties of the financial results; persistence, predictive value, accrual adjustments and earnings smoothing. It identifies the determinants – cultural conditions that have a statistically material impact, either positive or negative, on various attributes of the quality of the financial results of public companies. The book contains an up-to-date, in-depth description of the financial statements of public companies, across of variety of countries and sectors. The publication is addressed to researchers and students concerned with the functioning of capital markets and financial reporting quality and those who would like to expand their knowledge in the field of behavioural finance, as well as investors in capital markets.

Reporting Palestine-Israel in British Newspapers An Analysis of British Newspapers

Free Download Nadia R. Sirhan, "Reporting Palestine-Israel in British Newspapers: An Analysis of British Newspapers"
English | ISBN: 3030170713 | 2021 | 263 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This book examines the portrayal of the Palestinian-Israeli ‘conflict’ by looking at the language used in its reporting and how this can, in turn, influence public opinion. The book explores how language use helps frame an event to elicit a particular interpretation from the reader and how this can be manipulated to introduce bias. Sirhan begins the book by examining the history of the ‘conflict’, and the many persistent myths that surround it. She analyses how five events in the ‘conflict’ (two in which the Palestinians are victims, two in which the Israelis are victims, and Operation Cast Lead) are reported in five British newspapers: The Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, and The Times. By looking at these events across a range of newspapers, the book investigates differences in the way that the media report each side, before exploring what factors motivate these differences – including issues of bias, censorship, lobbying, and propaganda.

Sustainability Reporting Practices and the Circular Economy

Free Download Sustainability Reporting Practices and the Circular Economy: Analysis and Integrated Strategies
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031518446 | 333 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 11 MB
The Circular Economy (CE) and CE-related approaches are increasingly prominent in corporate strategy, with potential environmental, social, and economic benefits to the organization. However, a comprehensive framework that incorporates CE with governance and reporting practices, providing accurate assessments of CE’s success in achieving sustainability targets and other goals, is not yet in place. This book addresses that gap, analyzing the relationship between CE and sustainable development practices, company performance, and to what extent organizations have disclosed this information in annual reporting practices. It proposes different frameworks to evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impact of CE and how CE might be promoted, disclosed, and accurately assessed in reporting practices. It will be of great interest to researchers and students of sustainable development, governance, accounting, and business economics, as well as practitioners seeking a research-based framework for integrating CE into their business reporting.
