Teacher Noticing of Pre-service and In-service Secondary Mathematics Teachers

Free Download Teacher Noticing of Pre-service and In-service Secondary Mathematics Teachers: Influences of Teaching Experience, Cognitive Demands, and Teaching Internships on Perception, Interpretation, and Decision-making by Anton Bastian
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 190 Pages | ISBN : 3658456183 | 8.9 MB
In light of increasing demands on teachers and the need to develop teaching-related competences, this book examines the situation-specific skill of teacher noticing in pre-service and in-service secondary mathematics teachers. A video-based test instrument is used to measure teachers’ noticing skills in perception, interpretation, and decision-making from both general and mathematics pedagogical perspectives. The aim is to understand the structure and characteristics of teacher noticing across different groups, as well as the influences of teaching experience and opportunities to learn. Three quantitative studies are conducted: two cross-sectional studies with 457 participants, including master’s students, early career teachers, and experienced teachers, and one longitudinal study with 175 master’s students. The results support the conceptualization of teacher noticing as comprising three facets. They also reveal positive influences of teaching experience on the development of teacher noticing, with in-service teachers outperforming master’s students. However, experienced teachers perform similarly to early career teachers in general and worse in certain areas, suggesting saturation or forgetting effects. The longitudinal study finds that interpretation skills facilitate the development of perception and decision-making, emphasizing the knowledge-based nature of teacher noticing.

Secondary Metabolites in Plant Stress Adaptation Analytic Space of Secondary Metabolites

Free Download Secondary Metabolites in Plant Stress Adaptation: Analytic Space of Secondary Metabolites by Nabil Semmar
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 393 Pages | ISBN : 3031525949 | 74.4 MB
This book covers correlation and combined disciplinary aspects implying the use of secondary metabolites (SMs) of different plant species for control and monitoring of environment states. Phytochemical management of ecological systems represents an integrative field aiming for determination/evaluation of environment conditions from qualitative and quantitative analysis of plant metabolites. Plants respond to environmental conditions through productions of secondary metabolites. SMs represent highly variable and sensitive phytocompounds because of their small produced amounts, high structural variability and diversified activities. These characteristics make variations of SMs in plants to be highly informative on environmental conditions, physiological states and biological interactions. Qualitative and quantitative variations of SMs in plants are subject to correlation analyses to highlight links between biotic/abiotic conditions and plant chemical patterns.

Secondary Cities and Local Governance in Southern Africa

Free Download Secondary Cities and Local Governance in Southern Africa by Abraham R. Matamanda, James Chakwizira, Kudzai Chatiza, Verna Nel
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 331 Pages | ISBN : 3031498569 | 39.8 MB
This book is the first to consider the roles, challenges and governance responses of secondary cities in southern Africa to changing circumstances. Among the challenges are governance under conditions of resource scarcity, managing informality, the effects and responses to climate change and the changing roles of the cities within the national space economy. It fills the gap in the literature on secondary cities with original case studies drawn from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The authors are all African scholars, working and living in the region with intimate knowledge of the settings they describe. The book is critical as it includes such regional case studies of different secondary cities in Southern Africa but also because of it’s multidisciplinarity: it contains substantive and pertinent issues such as climate change, disaster management, local economic development, and basic services delivery. It considers diverse environments, yet with similar challenges that could provide useful policy and governance proposals for other cities.
