Applications of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to Catalytic Studies

Free Download Applications of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to Catalytic Studies : From Routine Analysis to Cutting-Edge Surface Characterization (547 Pages)
by Spyridon Zafeiratos

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has become a standard practice technique, and automated XPS facilities can be found in industry and in universities all over the world. This transformed XPS from an advanced characterization method for dedicated research, to a rather standard analysis technique of surface analysis. The catalyst’s surface state is probably the most prominent factor that influences the catalytic performance. It is therefore no surprise that XPS has become an indispensable tool in studies of solid catalysts. It has been directly used to investigate issues such as the surface composition of the active catalyst and reaction and deactivation mechanisms.

Spectroscopy The Key to the Stars Reading the Lines in Stellar Spectra

Free Download Spectroscopy: The Key to the Stars Reading the Lines in Stellar Spectra by Keith Robinson
English | PDF (True) | 2007 | 164 Pages | ISBN : 0387367861 | 3 MB
While most amateur astronomers know about the red shift, have a general idea of the way that the emission and absorption lines in stellar spectra provide an insight into the atomic processes of the star, it is unusual to find someone who has any kind of detailed knowledge. The reason isn’t lack on interest – far from it – but is because all the books currently available are pitched at professional astronomers and degree students, and are to say the least, difficult to read.

IR Theory and Practice of Infrared Spectroscopy

Free Download IR: Theory and Practice of Infrared Spectroscopy by Nelson L. Alpert , William E. Keiser , Herman A. Szymanski
English | PDF | 1970 | 509 Pages | ISBN : 1468481622 | 44.1 MB
The first edition of this text was written primarily by one of the present authors (HAS), with a chapter on instrumentation contributed by a second (NLA). The volume was well received, and to keep the text up-to-date a second edition was planned. For this second edition, a third author (WEK) was invited, whose background complemented that of the other two. Each of the authors was assigned several chapters as his primary task while the complete manuscript remained the second ary responsibility of all three. It is hoped that this approach has resulted in a work that is even more thorough than the first edition in covering the basic concepts of infrared spectroscopy. NELSON L. ALPERT WILLIAM E. KEISER HERMAN A. SZYMANSKI v PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION My experience with the many infrared spectroscopy institutes held at Canisius College and many discussions with both beginners and experienced practitioners in infrared spectroscopy have convinced me that there is a need for an introductory text devoted entirely to infrared spectroscopy, a text which can be utilized even by those who approach this study with only a limited background. This volume sprang from that conviction. It is intended for all who wish to use infrared spec troscopy in research – especially chemists doing structural work – in routine control work, in industrial development, or in medical appli cations or those military applications where it is employed as an analytical tool.

Muon Spectroscopy An Introduction

Free Download Stephen J. Blundell, "Muon Spectroscopy: An Introduction"
English | ISBN: 0198858957 | 2022 | 432 pages | PDF | 25 MB
Muons, radioactive particles produced in accelerators, have emerged as an important tool to study problems in condensed matter physics and chemistry. Beams of muons with all their spins polarized can be used to investigate a variety of static and dynamic effects and hence to deduce properties concerning magnetism, superconductivity, molecular or chemical dynamics and a large number of other phenomena. The technique was originally the preserve of a few specialists located in particle physics laboratories. Today it is used by scientists from a very wide range of scientific backgrounds and interests.
