English | 2008 | ISBN: 0801071550 | EPUB | pages: 156 | 0.1 mb
Ruth Bell Graham knew about prodigals-two of her five children were spiritual wanderers. This is not a "how to" book that dispenses easy advice on ways to win back a prodigal. Instead, it is a collection of readings one woman turned to for comfort when her children wandered from God. It shows how Graham’s faith persevered and grew regardless of the outcome of her prodigals’ stories.

Poets and the Fools Who Love Them A Memoir in Essays

Free Download Richard Katrovas, "Poets and the Fools Who Love Them: A Memoir in Essays"
English | ISBN: 080717663X | 2022 | 246 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
Poets and the Fools Who Love Them blends autobiography with cultural commentary and meditates on creative writing as a cottage industry within humanities higher education. Celebrated poet and memoirist Richard Katrovas examines his picaresque early years with a criminal father, a beleaguered mother, and four siblings as state and federal authorities pursued the family across the highways of America. His freewheeling, wide-ranging essays consider, among other social constructs, the relation of crime and art, and the relation of both to the authority of the state, particularly in terms of race and class. Katrovas speaks candidly about how white privilege facilitated his father’s criminal career, as a lifestyle of larceny and used-car scams, perpetuated state to state, would have surely had different implications for a family of color.

Meteors and How to Observe Them (2024)

Free Download Robert Lunsford, "Meteors and How to Observe Them"
English | 2008 | pages: 198 | ISBN: 0387094601, 038709461X | PDF | 9,2 mb
In this era of high-tech instruments, meteor observing is the one facet of astr- omy that needs nothing more than your naked eye. Meteors can be easily seen without the aid of cameras, binoculars, or telescopes. Just ? nd a comfortable chair and lie back and watch for the surprises that await high above you. It is a great way to involve the family in science where everyone is active at the same time, not wa- ing to take turns at the eyepiece. The kids especially enjoy the hunt for "shooting stars," oohing and ahing at each streak of light that crosses the sky. While gazing upwards, it is also a great way to get more familiar with the sky by learning the constellations and seeing if you can see the warrior among the stars of Orion or the scorpion among the stars of Scorpius. Until just recently, one could simply go outside and watch for meteors from his or her yard. Unfortunately, humankind’s fear of the dark and the widespread use of lighting as advertisement have lit the nighttime scene in urban areas so that only the brightest stars are visible. Serious meteor observing under such conditions is nearly impossible as the more numerous faint meteors are now lost in the glare of urban skies. Today, a serious meteor observing session entails organizing an outing to a country site where the stars can be seen in all their glory and meteors of all magnitudes can be viewed.

Free Download A Book of Bees: And How to Keep Them (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0CPZNT4NS | 2024 | 5 hours and 49 minutes | M4B@128 kbps | 304 MB
Author: Sue Hubbell
Narrator: Lauren DePorre

Weaving a vivid portrait of her own life and her bees’ lives, Sue Hubbell lovingly describes the ins and outs of beekeeping on her small Missouri farm, where the end of one honey season is the start of the next. With three hundred hives, Hubbell stays busy year-round tending to the bees and harvesting their honey, a process that is as personally demanding as it is rewarding. Exploring the progression of both the author and the hive through the seasons, this is "a book about bees to be sure, but it is also about other things: the important difference between loneliness and solitude; the seasonal rhythms inherent in rural living; the achievement of independence; the accommodating of oneself to nature" (Philadelphia Inquirer). Beautifully written and full of exquisitely rendered details, it is a tribute to Hubbell’s wild hilltop in the Ozarks and of the joys of living a complex life in a simple place.

Capitalism and Crises How to Fix Them [Audiobook]

Free Download Colin Mayer, Bob Souer (Narrator), "Capitalism and Crises: How to Fix Them"
English | ASIN: B0CR1WW42F | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~09:42:00 | 275 MB
The world is encountering multiple crises-climate, droughts, floods, energy, food, and pandemics, to name a few. We have a problem, this is the solution.
Capitalism and Crises is about how capitalism can fix them-how it can solve not cause them. The reason why it has caused them is that we have misconceived the nature of our capitalist system. We have failed to understand the key institution at the heart of it-business-and as a result we have allowed it to cause as well as solve problems. This book describes why this has happened and what needs to change to address it.
Drawing on history, philosophy, psychology, and biology as well economics, law, and finance, Mayer describes what has gone wrong, what needs to change, and how to fix it. He sets out the big challenges that capitalism must address and how it should set about doing that, and discusses how financial institutions should be at the heart of this, and how the public sector can work with the private on a common purpose of solving problems and creating shared prosperity. Capitalism and Crises provides an inspiring and motivational roadmap of how we as practitioners, policymakers, consumers, employees, communities, students, and citizens of the world can together tackle the challenges of the twenty-first century-to flourish and survive.
