Ever since she was elected to Parliament in May 2015, Jess Phillips, the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, has been making the headlines for doing what women are simply not supposed to do: speak up. Whether that’s for talking about the time she was sexually assaulted, or reading out the names of one hundred and twenty women and girls who were murdered, or about the unnecessary VAT on sanitary products, Jess isn’t afraid to stand up and tell the truth. Jess tells the truth even when that means she is threatened, often with rape or even with death. She knows exactly what it’s like to be on the frontline in the fight for equality, what it’s like to deal with sexist comments day in and day out, what it really means to be a woman trying to change things in a man’s world.

Being, Goodness and Truth (Volume 16

Free Download Alex Hall Gyula Klima, "Being, Goodness and Truth (Volume 16 "
English | ISBN: 152753765X | 2019 | 130 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This volume considers the Aristotelian virtue-ethics tradition as it develops in the writings of Thomas Aquinas. Part One studies the types of virtues Aquinas believes are held by Christians in a state of grace. Aquinass intriguing account is apparently fraught with inconsistencies, which have split contemporary interpreters over not only how to understand Aquinas on this matter, but also as to whether it is even possible to provide a consistent interpretation of his doctrine. This book brings together scholarship that reflects the various sides of the debate. Part Two explores a Thomistic synthesis regarding Aquinass account of the good as telos or end that emerges in the seventeenth century, as well as what promise his virtue ethics holds today, arguing that Aquinas hylomorphic understanding of human beings as matter-form composites furnishes a robust moral accounting that seems unavailable to alternative, reductive materialist accounts.

Author: Elizabeth Joy Zalman, Jerry Neumann
Narrator: Elizabeth Joy Zalman, Jerry Neumann, Andrew Magnusson

How many world-changing startups will fail because the founders and investors never figure out how to work together? Founder Elizabeth Zalman and Investor Jerry Neumann square off in this one-of-a-kind book, exposing how startups are built, broken, and fought over. Every iconic tech company was once a startup. And while these companies like to paint an origin story full of surefooted confidence, the truth is usually something different: the early life of most startups is pure chaos. This chaos comes from the vastly different motivations and incentives between those with the vision and those with the money. From fundraising paranoia to boardroom coups, Zalman and Neumann train their inimitable voices on the gulf between what founders and investors promise to do and what they end up actually doing. Founder vs Investor is the brutal truth, from each side’s perspective, of the pitfalls of this tenuous relationship-where bad blood can turn sure things into shattered dreams. It is the only book written by insiders with the temerity to pull back the curtain on the world of high growth venture-backed startups.

In January 2020, US President Donald Trump announced his ‘deal of the century’. Supposedly intended to ‘resolve’ the Palestine-Israel conflict, it accepted Israeli occupation as a fait accompli. Azmi Bishara places this normalisation of occupation in its historical context, examining Palestine as an unresolved case of settler colonialism, now evolved into an apartheid regime.

Claus Oetke Truth Paradoxes, Meaning, and Interpretation, Two Essays

Free Download Wolfgang Kunne, "Claus Oetke: Truth Paradoxes, Meaning, and Interpretation, Two Essays "
English | ISBN: 3700188803 | 2022 | 224 pages | PDF | 1446 KB
The two essays in this book are united by a common philosophical concern. While the first is dedicated to a problem in systematic philosophy, the second mainly deals with the interpretation of a specific issue articulated in a certain Indian philosophical tradition. In the first essay Oetke focusses on a complex of questions that occupied philosophy ever since a Cretan asserted that no Cretan tells the truth. Since the discussion of the family of truth paradoxes was very intensive in 20th century logic and analytical philosophy, one would not have expected essentially new insights into the source and the range of those paradoxes, and yet this is exactly what this essay offers by emphasizing the need to distinguish different types of meaning. The second essay addresses issues in the hermeneutics of classical texts. It takes its start from Oetke’s final (unpublished) comment on a series of articles in the Journal of Indian Philosophy that deal with the interpretation of the sadvitiyaprayoga ("proof-formulation that entails a counterpart"). Oetke generalizes the point of his critical observations by showing the relevance of acknowledging diverse types of both meaning and interpretation in the methodology of research not only in the history of Indian philosophy. His essay is a substantial contribution to the contemporary literature of methodology in the history of philosophy in general.

Truth Claims Across Media

Free Download Truth Claims Across Media
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031420632 | 358 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 27 MB
The flexible communicative possibilities of digital technology have a significant impact on our perception of truth and truthfulness of communication. Bot accounts, deep fake videos, or AI technology draw attention to how reliable communication is destabilized and questioned. In this unstable climate, binaries such as true/false, authentic/fake and fiction/facts are difficult to apply. Instead, it is crucial to investigate how media products construct truthfulness in different ways. The volume brings together various media types and contexts such as press conferences, documentaries and mockumentaries, images in magazines and on social media, horror movies, biopics, and educational games and explores how truth claims, authenticity discourses, and knowledge communication are established and how they collide, merge, or are confused.
