Reciprocal Causality in an Event-Filled World

Free Download Joseph A. Bracken S.J., "Reciprocal Causality in an Event-Filled World"
English | ISBN: 1978709781 | 2022 | 168 pages | EPUB, PDF | 309 KB + 3 MB
Given the current sense of helplessness in dealing with environmental change and other urgent issues, a new world view is needed that emphasizes the unique contribution that individual citizens can make to the common good as opposed to their individual needs and desires. In a recent encyclical on the environment, Pope Francis set forth reasons from Scripture and Church teaching for this shift in perspective, but he did not provide a philosophically based foundation for this change of heart. To fill that gap, Joseph Bracken examines key writings of process-oriented philosophers like Henri Bergson and Alfred North Whitehead along with systems-oriented thinkers like Ludwig von Bertalanffy and Ervin Laszlo to create a systems-oriented understanding of the God-world relation.

Jews and Entertainment in the Ancient World

Free Download Loren R Spielman, "Jews and Entertainment in the Ancient World "
English | ISBN: 3161550005 | 2020 | 320 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Countering the traditional belief that Jews in antiquity were predominantly disinterested in the popular entertainments of the Greek and Roman world, Loren R. Spielman maps the varieties of Jewish engagement with theater, athletics, horse racing, gladiatorial, and beast shows in antiquity. The author argues that Jews from Hellenistic Alexandria to late antique Sepphoris enjoyed and exploited, or alternatively resisted and scorned, popular forms of public entertainment as they adapted to the political, social, and religious realities of imperial rule. Including references to ancient Jewish actors, athletes, promoters, and plays alongside analysis of rabbinic and other early Jewish critique of sport and spectacle, Loren R. Spielmandescribes the different ways that attitudes towards entertainment might have played a role in shaping ancient Jewish identity.

Gandharan Art and the Classical World A Short Introduction

Free Download Peter Stewart, "Gandharan Art and the Classical World: A Short Introduction"
English | ISBN: 1803276940 | 2023 | 94 pages | PDF | 6 MB
In the early centuries AD, the small region of Gandhara (centred on what is now northern Pakistan) produced an extraordinary tradition of Buddhist art which eventually had an immense influence across Asia. Mainly produced to adorn monasteries and shrines, Gandharan sculptures celebrate the Buddha himself, the stories of his life and the many sacred characters of the Buddhist cosmos. Since this imagery was rediscovered in the nineteenth century, one of its most fascinating and puzzling aspects is the extent to which it draws on the conventions of Greek and Roman art, which originated thousands of kilometres to the west. Inspired by the Gandhara Connections project at Oxford University’s Classical Art Research Centre, this book offers an introduction to Gandharan art and the mystery of its relationship with the Graeco-Roman world of the Mediterranean. It presents an accessible explanation of the ancient and modern contexts of Gandharan art, the state of scholarship on the subject, and guidance for further, in-depth study.

English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 211 Pages | ISBN : 3031348133 | 6 MB
This book is about dynamic capabilities (DCs) in the context of the 21st century, in which global challenges seem to come from different quadrants. For instance, an environmental threat to the planetĀ“s sustainability, or technological advancements disrupting the traditional value chains call for new business models accompanying societal trends. Although the usual approach in dealing with these business models is from a competitiveness perspective, the editors of this book avoid it as the approach seems reductive of what the organizations are required to be aware of and cope with in the modern world only to their organizational ecosystems.
