Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morality A Critical Introduction and Guide (Edinburgh Critical Guides to Nietzsche)

English | February 9, 2022 | ISBN: 1474430775 | 240 pages | PDF | 6.76 Mb
On the Genealogy of Morality has become the most common point of entry into Nietzsche’s thought. It offers relatively straightforward, sustained explanatory narratives addressing many of the main ideas of Nietzsche’s mature thought, such as will to power, nihilism, perspectivism, the value of truth and the critique of morality. At the same time, it is challenging to understand because Nietzsche intended it as an expansion and elaboration of his existing ideas. Robert Guay provides the interpretive and philosophical context to help new readers of Nietzsche understand both the book and Nietzsche’s thought more widely. He shows how Nietzsche’s narratives engage with philosophical issues about agency, self-knowledge, historical explanation and the critique of morality.

Walking as Critical Inquiry

Free Download Walking as Critical Inquiry
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031299906 | 285 Pages | PDF (True) | 11 MB
This book is a transdisciplinary, international collection situated within a genealogy of experimental walking practices in the arts, arts-based research, and emergent walking practices in education. It brings together emerging cartographies of relation amongst walking practices ranging across arts-based, ecological, activist, decolonising, queer, critical and posthuman modes of inquiry. Its particular investment is in the proliferation of artful modes of inquiry that open up speculative practices and concepts of walking as an orientation for pedagogy, inquiry, and the everyday, resisting the gaze of privilege and the relentless commodification of human and nonhuman life processes. This is important work for the burgeoning demand for creative methodologies in the social sciences, and more specifically, for arts-based educational research.

Constructing a Place of Critical Architecture in China Intermediate Criticality in the Journal Time + Architecture

Free Download Guanghui Ding, "Constructing a Place of Critical Architecture in China: Intermediate Criticality in the Journal Time + Architecture"
English | ISBN: 1472463692 | 2015 | 256 pages | PDF | 20 MB
For the past 30 years, The Chinese journal Time + Architecture (Shidai Jianzhu) has focused on publishing innovative and exploratory work by emerging architects based in private design firms who were committed to new material, theoretical and pedagogical practices. In doing so, this book argues that the journal has engaged in the presentation and production of a particular form of critical architecture – described as an ‘intermediate criticality’ – as a response to the particular constraints of the Chinese cultural and political context. The journal’s publications displayed a ‘dual critique’ – a resistant attitude to the dominant modes of commercial building practice, characterised by rapid and large-scale urban expansion, and an alternative publishing practice focusing on emerging, independent architectural practitioners through the active integration of theoretical debates, architectural projects, and criticisms. This dual critique is illustrated through a careful review and analysis of the history and programme of the journal. By showing how the work of emerging architects, including Yung Ho Chang, Wang Shu, Liu Jiakun and Urbanus, are situated within the context of the journal’s special thematic editions on experimental architecture, exhibition, group design, new urban space and professional system, the book assesses the contribution the journal has made to the emergence of a critical architecture in China, in the context of how it was articulated, debated, presented and perhaps even ‘produced’ within the pages of the publication itself. The protagonists of critical architecture have endeavoured to construct an alternative mode of form and space with strong aesthetic and socio-political implications to the predominant production of architecture under the current Chinese socialist market economy. To rebel against certain forms of domination and suppression by capital and power is by no means to completely reject them; rather, it is to use thos

Acknowledging him as a trailblazer, the book aims to capture how deeply Hanns Ullrich has influenced contemporaries and subsequent generations of scholars. The contributors re-iterate the path-breaking patterns of his teachings, such as his contemplation of intellectual property as embedded in competition, the necessity of balancing private and public interests in intellectual property law, the policies of market integration, and the peculiar relationship of technological advancement and protectionism.

The true, eye-opening account of how the NHS has been failed and what we can do to save it. ‘The NHS is an institution. But it’s also a political football, kicked back and forth between politicians for the past 75 years. It’s a burden to some and a potent vote-winner for others. It’s a construct, framed in the media. It’s a set of ideas and a logo. It’s a workplace for many and the birthplace of almost all of us. It’s become a valued part of our society, it is extraordinarily special – and it’s being destroyed.’ The NHS is at crisis point. In the 75 years since it was founded on the dream of making healthcare accessible to everyone, its principles have been chipped away at and disregarded by successive political leaders.

Semi-Critical Assisted Extraction

Free Download Semi-Critical Assisted Extraction: Applications and Commercialization in Biotechnology, Food, and Pharmacy
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9814968366 | 263 Pages | PDF (True) | 19 MB
In the past three decades, great efforts have been made to develop new methods for the extraction of natural molecules. Improved extraction technologies have garnered scientific interest as they have helped in understanding how mass and energy transfer exhibited for a solvent and solute during a chemical extraction can be used as physical chemistry parameters, leading to the modeling and design of new advantageous equipment. In situ data collected during a chemically assisted experiment is useful in a variety of scientific and technological applications, especially in generating extractors that are safer, more efficient, and offer true opportunities to scale them up in a wide range of materials (among stainless steel).

This book serves as a guide to the pulmonary and critical care complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). HSCT is an important therapeutic modality for a variety of malignant and non-malignant conditions. The outcomes of these patients have been improving and the number of HSCT cases is increasing around the world. These patients, however, continue to have post-transplant complications related to conditioning regimens and graft vs. host disease.
