Description
You have been in education for a few (or many) years now. You have decided to either take your impact to the next level such as the entire school building or district, or outside of education. However, you have been met with a myriad of doubts or roadblocks. Perhaps you have been applying and applying, never progressing to the interview stage. Or maybe you are still struggling to write your resume. You have come to the right place. In 2018, after teaching for 6 years, I was in your shoes. I decided it was time to leave the classroom. I submitted my resume for campus leadership with high hopes due to my proven success as a teacher and was rejected. I spent the next year learning, growing, and positioning myself as the ideal candidate for the leadership position I desired using the opportunities available to me on my campus and within my network.I am happy to report that the next year when I submitted my resume, I obtained my desired position but I recognize that had I not been guided by mentors in the positions I sought, in my Master’s program, and in my professional teacher community, I probably would not have. The goal of this course is to share with you everything I learned in the process of going from Teacher to Leader so that you can do the same. So, if you have decided to leave the classroom, be it for a position within or outside of education, this course is for you. This course will also be helpful for teachers who wish to start earning major accolades within education such as Teacher of the Year for your entire district or Educator of the Year with local business organizations so welcome if this is you!The course itself is split into multiple sections. Some sections can be completed immediately with the only prerequisite being your current resume so whatever state it is in, have it ready to pull up and engage with. There is a combination of lectures, written work, case studies, and samples to engage all learner types. Throughout the course, we will make each section’s recommended change to my resume as an example before you complete the change on your own.The primary objective of the course is to understand how, when making the move to leave the classroom, you must communicate your educator skill set in a powerful, data-driven way that draws the eyes of hiring managers within or outside of education, no matter their familiarity with educational initiatives or language. Why? First, not every recruiter (or hiring manager) is fluent in teacher. We are known for acronyms and we have numerous terms that simply don’t translate outside of education. If your resume is filled with these, they will pass you over in their short initial scan for a resume which they can clearly understand at speed. For those who are familiar, they already know that as a teacher you lesson planned, supervised students, and communicated with parents. so if these are taking up space on your resume, you have missed critical opportunities to show your unique skill set and impact as an employee. This course will help you eliminate the teacher language you don’t need while preserving your experience and restructuring it to align with leadership or non-educational positions. In this first section, you will step through how to analyze job descriptions to find keywords, both those explicitly stated and those embedded throughout the posting. This is critical for you to position yourself as the ideal candidate. You will then compare your own resume statements and eliminate any that do not put you in this desired position or restructure them to fit.In the next section I will walk you through examples of campus opportunities (and how to pitch yourself to those in charge of said opportunities) to gain the experience you need in a few short months to match the job description keywords for which you lack data and substance. I include email and conversation scripts to assist you. At this point in the course, you can pause to pursue these ventures and return to progress in the course until you are prepared with data on your specific contribution and impact. Finally, you will construct your finished resume, highlighting the unique impact you have had in creating and managing systems and protocols so that you are an ideal leader or team member. I will also provide you with some recommendations for getting your resume to the exact people you want to review it, skipping some middle men in the process. This course will provide you with everything you need (with a little work on your part) to secure an interview spot for your dream position. If you are ready to pursue your dreams and make a change, enroll today.
