Geological and Geo-Environmental Processes on Earth (2024)

Free Download Geological and Geo-Environmental Processes on Earth by Arun Kumar Shandilya
English | EPUB | 2021 | 328 Pages | ISBN : 9811641218 | 228.7 MB
This edited volume dedicated to late Prof. P.S. Saklani addresses the multidisciplinary themes pertaining to role of tectonism and magmatism in Crustal Evolution and global distribution of metallic and non metallic mineral deposits. It gives valuable information on geodynamic evolution, structural, petrological, isotopic, metamorphic, geochemical and geochronological attributes of continental and oceanic crust and is challenging reassessments of the existing paradigms. It addresses the implication of magmatism, metallogeny and application of geochronological ages (U-Pb SHRIMP age, Lu-Hf isotopic system; detrital zircons).

Bamboo Expansion Processes, Impacts, and Management

Free Download Bamboo Expansion: Processes, Impacts, and Management by Ling Zhang
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 205 Pages | ISBN : 9819941121 | 9.5 MB
This book highlights processes, impacts and management practices of bamboo expansion occurring in areas where it is distributed around the world. Although not conceptually plant invasions, bamboo expansion has been considered an "invasion" based on its characteristics and the impacts it caused on adjacent ecosystems it expanded into, including altered element cycling, transformed soil microbial community compositions, decreased biodiversity, fluctuated primary productions, etc. However, the processes and impacts during or after complete expansion and the underlying mechanisms of successful expansion, are still unclear. The ecological effects of bamboo expansion are not given full consideration and are not thoroughly understood.

An Introduction to Stochastic Processes and Their Applications

Free Download An Introduction to Stochastic Processes and Their Applications by Petar Todorovic
English | PDF | 1992 | 302 Pages | ISBN : 1461397448 | 32.6 MB
This text on stochastic processes and their applications is based on a set of lectures given during the past several years at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). It is an introductory graduate course designed for classroom purposes. Its objective is to provide graduate students of statistics with an overview of some basic methods and techniques in the theory of stochastic processes. The only prerequisites are some rudiments of measure and integration theory and an intermediate course in probability theory. There are more than 50 examples and applications and 243 problems and complements which appear at the end of each chapter. The book consists of 10 chapters. Basic concepts and definitions are pro vided in Chapter 1. This chapter also contains a number of motivating ex amples and applications illustrating the practical use of the concepts. The last five sections are devoted to topics such as separability, continuity, and measurability of random processes, which are discussed in some detail. The concept of a simple point process on R+ is introduced in Chapter 2. Using the coupling inequality and Le Cam’s lemma, it is shown that if its counting function is stochastically continuous and has independent increments, the point process is Poisson. When the counting function is Markovian, the sequence of arrival times is also a Markov process. Some related topics such as independent thinning and marked point processes are also discussed. In the final section, an application of these results to flood modeling is presented.

An Introduction to Markov Processes Ed 2

Free Download Daniel W. Stroock, "An Introduction to Markov Processes Ed 2"
English | ISBN: 3642405223 | 2014 | 220 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
This book provides a rigorous but elementary introduction to the theory of Markov Processes on a countable state space. It should be accessible to students with a solid undergraduate background in mathematics, including students from engineering, economics, physics, and biology. Topics covered are: Doeblin’s theory, general ergodic properties, and continuous time processes. Applications are dispersed throughout the book. In addition, a whole chapter is devoted to reversible processes and the use of their associated Dirichlet forms to estimate the rate of convergence to equilibrium. These results are then applied to the analysis of the Metropolis (a.k.a simulated annealing) algorithm.

Biohydrometallurgical Processes Metal Recovery and Remediation

Free Download Biohydrometallurgical Processes: Metal Recovery and Remediation
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1032587814 | 323 Pages | PDF (True) | 10 MB
Extensive industrialization has led to an increased release of toxic metals into the soil and air. Industrial waste can include mine overburden, bauxite residue, and E waste, and these can serve as a source of valuable recoverable metals. There are relatively simple methods to recycle these wastes, but they require additional chemicals, are expensive, and generate secondary waste that causes environmental pollution. Biohydrometallurgical processing is a cost-effective and ecofriendly alternative where biological processes help conserve dwindling ore resources and extract metals in a nonpolluting way. Microbes can be used in metal extraction from primary ores, waste minerals, and industrial and mining wastes. Biohydrometallurgical Processes: Metal Recovery and Remediation serves as a useful guide for microbiologists, biotechnologists, and various industrialists dealing with mining, metallurgy, chemical engineering, and environmental sciences.
